The real Josh Hamilton has finally stood up.

The Texas outfielder finally took the Twitter plunge on Tuesday, citing the number of fake “Josh Hamilton” accounts as his prime reason. Said Hamilton,

“I had to do it, man, when somebody’s got 12,000 followers and are acting like they’re me… it’s terrible.”

“I guess it would be good to have an official deal so fans can know it’s actually a note from me or a response from me. I’m just sick of having to take people off of Twitter that are acting like me who aren’t me. It’s not right for the fans.”

Hamilton is quickly closing in on the 50,000 follower mark with no signs of slowing down. Patriots WR Wes Welker made headlines when he gained 65,000 followers during his first 24 hours on the social networking service, so it will be interesting to see how Hamilton’s first day matches up.

Personally, I wouldn’t advise following Hamilton unless you enjoy a daily fix of bible verses. Check out his latest three tweets.

Josh Hamilton’s Home Run Derby: Legit or Lucky?

With two Silver Sluggers and an MVP award, the Rangers’ Josh Hamilton has always been one of baseball’s elite, but his on-field injuries and off-field substances have limited his potential throughout his career. However, you’ve probably heard that 2012 is a completely different story. Through his first 30 games, the Rangers’ outfielder has amassed a whopping 18 home...

Historic Baseball Feats – By The Numbers

Last week, Josh Hamilton became the 16th player in Major League Baseball History to hit four home runs in a game.  Since the beginning of Major League Baseball there have been over 200,000 games played and over 13 million at-bats.  Hamilton did something that happened over 15 times before him.  That made me wonder, what is more rare than a four home run game. There are many special...

Joey Votto and Josh Hamilton: A Study in Contrast

It has been a good week for the 2010 MVPs. On May 8th, 2010 AL MVP Josh Hamilton hit four home runs in a single game, becoming jus the 16th player in basball history to do so. On May 13, 2010 NL MVP Joey Votto managed just three home runs in a game, but the final one was a walk off, grand slam, the first since Adam Dunn in 2006. Hamilton currently leads all of baseball in batting...

Why Hamilton doesn't get Becket treatment

For all the uproar over Josh Beckett's ill-timed golf outing, Josh Hamilton's headfirst slide on a wet tarp in Baltimore last week was probably the more reckless act. Hamilton missed a series in Toronto from April 30 to May 2 with a sore back, yet received virtually no criticism for frolicking with his teammates in the rain just one week later. The difference? Hamilton...
