The Iowa Cubs and Kane County Cougars were postponed.

Dallas Beeler threw 6.2 innings, allowed only 1 hit and no runs. He walked 3 and struckout 5. In 38 innings already, he’s allowed 29 hits, 3 of which have been home runs. He’s walked only 10 and struckout 22. It would be easy to say that Beeler is going to have to strikeout more batters to have a future in a Major League rotation, but that’s unlikely. He struckout 70 last season in 136 innings. He struck out 65 the year before in 95 innings. He’s not a strikeout pitcher and what you’ve seen so far is probably what you get. He does have pretty good control.
Zach Rosscup threw 1.1 innings, walked a batter and struckout 2. Rosscup is off to a very god start. He’s struckout 18 in 11.1 innings, allowed only 7 hits, 0 home runs, and he’s walked 4.
Brian Schlitter threw the 9th, allowed 2 hits and a walk.
Three Smokies were 2-5: Ronald Torreyes, Christian Villanueva and Johermyn Chavez. In between Villanueva and Chavez in the lineup was Rubi Silva who was 3-4 with a walk. Jonathan Mota was 2-3 with a walk. Matt Szczur was 1-6 and he struckout once.
Daytona Cubs 6 @ Lakeland Flying Tigers 2
Austin Kirk threw 6 innings and allowed a couple of runs. He gave up 10 hits, walked none and struckout 4. Austin Reed pitched the next two innings and gave up a hit and a walk. David Cales walked a batter, gave up a hit and struckout 1 in his 1 inning last night.
The Smokies collected 11 hits and a walk last night. They had only one extra base hit, a double by Stephen Bruno. Bruno was 2-4. Zeke DeVoss had the day off and leadoff man Tim Saunders made his year worse than it’s already been by going 0-4 with 2 strikeouts.
John Andreoli was 2-5 and Javier Baez was 1-5 with 2 strikeouts. Dustin Geiger was 2-4. Jorge Soler was 0-3 with a walk.

The Cubs have reinstated 3B Ian Stewart from the 15-day DL and optioned him to AAA Iowa.
Stewart suffered a strained quad in an intrasquad game in February, and missed the entire 2013 MLB Cactus League Spring Training schedule. He was placed on the Cubs MLB 15-day Disabled List on March 31st (retro to 3/22), and was left behind at Extended Spring Training when the Cubs left Arizona...
This may not be an actual flop, but we are definitely going to classify it as such. Cubs outfielder Julio Borbon, who you probably have never heard of until now, seems to be one of the first MLB players to bring flopping to the mainstream baseball audience. Check out the slightly delayed and fake reaction to a ball that bounced in the dirt, and never came close to him. Soccer...
Round Rock Express 1 @ Iowa Cubs 0
Chris Rusin had a very good start. He went 7 innings, allowed 6 hits and a run. He walked none and struckout 5. Hisanori Takahashi struck a batter out and allowed a hit in the 8th. Zach Putnam struckout 2 and allowed a hit in the 9th.
Logan Watkins was 3-3 with another walk. He’s struckout a little too much this year and it should come down....
Prior to the season, I was set to write about how the Cubs were gradually amassing a bunch of fly-ball heavy pitchers. I never ended up getting around to it, but I'm not one to let a mediocre (or wrong) idea die, so I'll give you the condensed version:
From 2010 to 2012, among pitchers with at least 280 innings pitched, Travis Wood had the lowest groundball percentage ...
When playing for a team as hopeless as the Cubs, sometimes embellishing a bit to your advantage isn’t the worst idea.
That’s what Chicago center fielder Julio Borbon was thinking Thursday afternoon, at least, but his acting skills could use some serious work. When a pitch from San Diego’s Luke Gregerson landed in the dirt near his feet, Borbon hopped up and down as if the ball...
Chicago Cubs third baseman Ian Stewart is now officially
active. MLB.com's Carrie Muskat reports that Stewart completed his 20-day rehab assignment on May 3, and the Cubs
officially assigned him to their Triple-A affiliate Iowa Cubs. He began his
rehab on April 13.
#Cubs activate Stewart from DL, and he's optioned to Iowa

The Chicago Cubs have sent starting pitcher Matt Garza to
their Double-A affiliate, the Tennesee Smokies, to begin a rehab assignment
that will hopefully lead the right hander back to Wrigley Field soon. Garza joined
the Smokies on May 1 and pitched 2.2 innings against the Mississippi Braves,
allowing one run on one hit, two walks, and no strikeouts. Unfortunately for Garza...

Chicago Cubs pitchers will get Triple-A rehab assignments within the next few
days. Reliever Kyuji Fujikawa is scheduled to pitch for the Iowa Cubs on
Sunday, May 5, and starter Matt Garza will pitch on Monday, May 6.
Carrie Muskat tweeted the news to her follwers:
#Cubs rehab updates: Fujikawa to pitch at @iowacubs on Sunday, Garza to start there...
Darwin Barney of the Cubs got up and personal with a bench on Friday as he chased after a foul ball. The result was a pretty solid collision with a bench but the young man rubbed some dirt on it and he was fine.

When you think of the greatest stadiums in the history of Major League Baseball, you would be hard-pressed to find a person that does not include the legendary Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs. There are not many stadiums left that existed more than fifty years with teams consistently moving to bigger, more “state...
Reset: Cubs trying to make nice with the neighborhood and city regarding concessions on landmark status, renovations, potential obstructing views due to outfield signage, night games, concerts, blah de blah. However, the rooftops are being a bit troublesome and may even threaten to sue because heavens forbid that their voyeuristic businesses be blocked (even partially).
When I think about great actors, I think about Warren Beatty, Tom Hanks, Rock Hudson and Julio Borbon?!?
During Thursday's Padres/Cubs affair at Wrigley, Borbon was facing Padres pitcher Luke Gregerson and pulled off one of the worst acting jobs in MLB history.
Watch as a Gregerson pitch goes a tad outside and fails to hit Bourbon but that doesn't stop Julio from acting...
Chicago Cubs pitcher Jeff Samardzija cut his hand open on a baseball, and that bloody ball was then sold at an auction for the Cincinnati Reds' charity.
John Polonius blasted a two-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the 4th to break a 4-4 tie and propel the Giants to a 6-4 victory on Field #1, and Jonathan Jones belted a two-run walk-off double off the LF fence on a 3-0 pitch with two outs in the bottom of the 5th as the Giants edged the Cubs 4-3 on Field #2 (thus sweeping the doubleheader), in Cactus League Extended...
