Logan Watkins was cursed by Berselius yesterday. He went 0-4. Ty Wright had a double. Junior Lake struck out twice, but walked. He played RF. J.C. Boscan walked and struck out. Anthony Giansanti is pinch-hitting a lot, and he's good at it. He went 1-1 for the 4th time in a row.
Jake Arrieta really sucked. In 3.2 innings, he allowed 10 hits (10!) and 7 runs. Only 3 earned runs on a Murphy error, though, so his 7.71 ERA looks better than it really was. He only walked 1, but why walk when you have like a .600 BABIP, right? Marcus Hatley pitched 1.1 innings and was perfect. Jeffry Antigua allowed a pair in an inning. Eduardo Sanchez and Casey Coleman had identical 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 SO lines.

Castro-watch: 1-3, HR, BB. I'll take it! Rizzo-watch: 2-4, HR, SO. I'll also take it! Alfonso Soriano had 2 home runs and a walk. Awesome. Even little...

Major League Baseball fans, especially Cub fans, keep up with the Matt Garza rumors that fly around the Internet and TV/radio shows and seem to change a number of times each day. However, more Cubs are on the trading block even after the team has already traded away four players. In addition to Garza, here are two other Cubs who have increased their trade value and likelihood of...
Alfonso Soriano has been known to be a streaky hitter throughout his career. Generally he starts the season slumping up the hoo-hah, which leaves fans disgruntled and wanting the 37 year old to retire. But when the weather heats up, his bat does as well. Just look at last season. He didn’t hit a home run until the month of May, and ended up with 32 of them by season’s end.
The month of July continues to shape the upcoming trade deadline and the first week has been heavily favoring the Chicago Cubs.
Chicago is in the midst of a four game winning streak but remain eight games under .500 and out of the playoff race in a super competitive NL Central.
This combination implies the Cubs are still steadfast deadline sellers but its players are maximizing potential...
First, I'd like to apologize for the extreme lateness of the JOT today. Usually, I bang them out at work (I get here an hour early and write it). Today that didn't happen because I was very busy all day. It'll probably happen again tomorrow. Perhaps someday this will actually be my job, but I'm probably several years away from that happening, if ever.
Third baseman Kris Bryant and the Chicago Cubs have agreed to terms on his first professional deal. As being reported by the Chicago Tribune, Bryan is to receive $6.7 million in signing bonuses.
He brings a big, powerful stick to the Cubs organization and barring any uncorrectable flaws or injuries, he should have a solid career in the major leagues. Bryant was the #2 overall selection...
The Chicago Cubs have reached an agreement with the city that would allow the team to build a left-field Jumbotron at historic Wrigley Field while adding another sign in right field, the team announced Thursday.
The city's landmarks commission, which must sign off on any changes to historic structures, was meeting Thursday afternoon to approve the deal.
If accepted, the Cubs...
Chicago Cubs center fielder Brian Bogusevic exited his team's July 4 game, but he could possibly play again on Thursday, July 11, as the Cubs begin a four-game series with their rivaled St. Louis Cardinals at Wrigley Field according to MLB.com's Carrie Muskat.
Bogusevic is the third Cubs center fielder to miss time due to injury, but at least he has so far avoided the...
The Chicago Cubs' planned $500 million renovation of Wrigley Field has won the approval of another city commission and the support of the local alderman -- all but assuring the project will go forward.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports that the Chicago Plan Commission on Thursday approved the proposal to renovate Wrigley and develop nearby property. The plan includes putting an...
Matt Garza pitched seven strong innings, Alfonso Soriano homered and scored four runs, and the Chicago Cubs pulled away late to beat the White Sox 8-2 on Monday night.
Dave Sappelt had a career-high four hits, while Soriano had three. Luis Valbuena drove in three runs, hitting the tiebreaking two-run double and scoring during a five-run eighth.
Garza (5-1), meanwhile, came through...

It’s time for us at Off The Bench to scour our brains and come up with some good fake trades that make too much sense to not happen, invariably don’t happen, move us one step closer to our ultimate respective destinies as general managers because...
I’m really kidding about that headline if you failed to read past that. This is a wonderful story linked from DNAInfoChicago:
Pearl Jam — the socially conscious rockers from Seattle who play at Wrigley Field July 19 — pledged to donate a portion of ticket sale revenue to the tiny after-school art program Ward founded on the Far Southeast Side 12 years ago.
Plus, the Cubs —...
The Chicago Cubs' youthful energy is rubbing off on Alfonso Soriano.
The 37-year-old outfielder hit two of the Cubs' season high five home runs and Travis Wood earned his first win in nearly six weeks in Chicago's 7-2 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday night.
''We have so much talent in this clubhouse,'' Soriano said. ''It's a...
Chicago closer Kevin Gregg may be on the Detroit Tigers’ radar as the July 31 trade deadline approaches. But what about starter Matt Garza, who, like Gregg, will be a free agent after this season?
ESPN’s Jim Bowden, formerly the GM for the Reds and Nationals, suggests a package deal that sends Garza and Gregg to the Tigers for Avisail Garcia, Rick Porcello and 2012 second-round...
The Dodgers and Indians are 'heavily scouting' Cubs pitcher Matt Garza, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today. The Giants and Rangers are also scouting Garza tonight. With this news, the teams interested in Garza are the Giants, Rangers, Dodgers, Indians, Blue Jays, Orioles and Nationals. So if a team were to acquire Garza, they will be in a bidding war, which will likely...
Before I start, let me point out that I’m sitting in my room listening to Pat Hughes call the Angels’ shellacking of our beloved Boys in Blue. But I’m still an eternal optimist, and if I need to look at current trends to feed that optimism, then so be it.
Last year at the All-Star break, the Cubs were 33-52. Barring a dozen runs in the next 2 innings tonight, they’ll be 40...
