The surging Tampa Bay Rays and Cy Young Award winner David Price took down the lowly White Sox by the score 3-1 on Sunday afternoon to complete the sweep. David Price showed why he is a Cy Young winner, tossing nine innings while letting up just one mistake - which we'll discuss soon. The south siders did outhit the Rays, eight to five, but never had a huge threat brewing against Price. In the first inning, Gordon Beckham and Alex Rios singled with one out, but the next couple hitters were made quick work of. In the third, Blake Tekotte led off with a single but was thrown out trying to steal second base with one out. And in the fourth inning, Dayan Viciedo and Brent Morel singles with two outs looked like a rally would finally pay off, but Price escaped the jam again. The Sox were hitting him fairly well to that point, but Price adjusted quickly and dominated our palehose in the 'second half' of the ball game. Bright spots came from Gordon Beckham and Josh Phegley (pictured above), who were both moved up quite a bit in this 'Sunday lineup.' Beckham went 2-for-4 with two singles, raising his average to .341 on the season. And Phegley, after just missing his first home run in the major leagues in the fourth inning, connected to go yard in his next at bat. Obviously, the sample size (two games) is far too small to get a real read on Phegley, but as of right now, he's lookin' fairly good. It is important to note, though, that starter John Danks looked very good once again. Despite moving to 2-6 on the season, Danks pitched seven strong innings of three-run ball despite not having the luck factor on his side. He let up five hits, walked two and fanned five hitters, lowering his ERA just a bit to 4.31.  His 1.10 WHIP is certainly encouraging, but his control could still be much better. He only threw strikes on 59 out of his 100 pitches on the afternoon. Stay with us, folks ... it's only a matter of time before it starts getting a little more interesting around our White Sox. I just wish I could predict how & why.
