After an evening full of offense for the White Sox, they brought us back to a familar sight: a pitcher's duel. The Royals drew first blood off of Sox' starter Jose Quintana thanks to a Mike Moustakas RBI-double in the bottom of the second inning. After Conor Gillaspie and Jeff Keppinger RBI singles in the top of the fourth inning, the White Sox took a 2-1 lead and both pitchers calmed down. Wade Davis of the Royals ended up pitching seven innings allowing only those two runs, while Quintana was pulled after letting up another run in the sixth inning. His ERA is now down just a bit at 3.83 on the season. But after Matt Lindstrom got us into the eighth inning, we still needed to make something happen to try to start a winning streak. In the top of the ninth inning, Alejandro De Aza came through with runners on the corners as he swung at what looked to be ball four but drove in Jordan Danks from third base to put the Sox up, 3-2. Addison Reed came in and nailed down the save, the 50th of his young career to earn Jesse Crain the win, who lowered his ERA to 0.53 and extended his scoreless streak to 29 iP. So that's two wins in a row ... for the White Sox ... in Kansas City. Well, I'll take it.
