Baseball Hot Corner:
Justin Morneau took to social media to pay his respects to the Minnesota Twins fans posting this message on his Facebook page. Morneau was dealt to the Pittsburgh Pirates after spending his entire career in Minnesota playing 1278 games over an 11-year span with the Twins. The 32-year old pride of New Westminster, British Columbia will now look to lead the Pirates to post season glory before entering free agency this off-season. There has been much speculation the Toronto Blue Jays would entertain signing the Canadian for a chance to play in his home country.
First of all, I would like to say thank you to all of the Twins fans. I would also like to thank the Minnesota Twins organization for giving me a chance to realize my dream of being a Major League baseball player. I was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in 1999. Since that day I have been very proud and fortunate to call myself a Minnesota Twin.
I was a wide-eyed 22 year old kid when I made my big league debut in 2003. I received ...

Garrett Jones wasn’t happy this week. While hitting .119 for the month of August entering last night’s game (courtesy of some atrocious luck on balls in play–.119 BABIP), manager Clint Hurdle gave his first baseman “a couple days down”. Jones did not start in the Milwaukee series, and received just one at-bat in a pinch-hit appearance Tuesday.
“At first, it’s frustrating...

The Pittsburgh Pirates looking to make the playoffs for the first time since 1992 added another bat to their line-up acquiring Minnesota Twins first baseman Justin Morneau in a waiver trade according to multiple sources. The two newest Minnesota Twins make the biggest impact Sunday in their team's 3-1 win over the Texas Rangers.
Center fielder Alex Presley and catcher Josmil Pinto both made their Twins debuts -- and for Pinto, his major league debut -- on Sunday, and they combined for five hits and a pair of RBI in Minnesota's victory.
It was Pinto, the 24-year-old from Venezuela, who opened...

More to come.
The Altoona Curve lost a tough game in eleven innings to end the season on a sour note. The Curve had a 2-0 lead until the seventh inning. Alen Hanson helped the Akron Aeros get the lead with a fielding error.
Akron’s Matt Lawson broke the tie in the eleventh with an RBI single to right field, which was followed by a Chris Wallace sacrifice fly.
The Curve got on board in the third...
Yesterday, the Pittsburgh Pirates sent Jason Grilli out for the start of his minor league rehab assignment. It is the final step before Grilli rejoins the club in time for the September stretch. There were concerns at times that Grilli may not be ready before the end of the year, so getting him some rehab action now is important.
Tom Singer of MLB.com says the plan for Grilli...
The minor league season is done for all but three of the Pittsburgh Pirates affiliates. Indianapolis and West Virginia will each start their playoffs on Wednesday, while Jamestown still has two regular season games left and a chance to win the NYPL Wildcard spot. They have a one game lead on Lowell and can clinch a spot tonight. Check out the Recent Transactions section to the bottom...
While Joe Mauer said earlier this week that he was still experiencing sensitivity to light and sound he’s beginning to make some progress from his concussion.
According to Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com Twins general manager Terry Ryan said that Mauer ramped up his exercises on Friday. He’s expected to progress to hitting off a tee today.
Alex Presley and Josmil Pinto quickly fit in with Minnesota.
Both players enjoyed a memorable debut for the Twins during their series-clinching 4-2 victory over the AL West-leading Texas Rangers on Sunday.
''I couldn't envision a better start for myself, to get a win and be able to contribute,'' said Presley, who had three hits and an RBI a day after being traded...
The short-handed Minnesota couldn't muster enough offense against the Texas Rangers on Saturday night.
Playing without injured catcher Joe Mauer and traded first baseman Justin Morneau, the Twins fell 2-1 to the Rangers on Leonys Martin's two-out, bases-loaded single in the bottom of the ninth inning.
"We got ahead of a guy and made a good pitch, and they roll one...
