Hey this is  a nice surprise for the Kansas City Royals to win a game and climb the leader board in the American League Central even if it was just their second game. The Royals are one game back behind the Tigers and with the win today are playing .500 ball. K.C. beat the Angels today and for six innings were able to hold the Angels scoreless. The Royals got on the board early, scoring two runs in the first inning and added another run in the second when Lorenzo Cain hit a sac fly to right field and Humberto Quintero scored making it 3-0 Royals.

Kansas City would add another run in the fifth when Eric Hosmer hit a home run giving them a 4-0 lead. The Royals were having fun today and you could tell when Mike Moustakas hit a home run in the sixth making it 5-0 Royals. The Angles would try to mount some offense in the seventh inning when Bobby Abreu hit a deep double driving home Kendrys Morales and sending Tori Hunter to third.  The Angels would tack on another run when Vernon Wells grounded out to third and Hunter scored making it 5-2 Royals.

The Royals would get their final run of the game on a throwing error by Angels catcher Bobby Wilson which allowed Chris Getz to score. The Angels could only tack on one more run in the ninth and fell short in mounting any kind of a come back, The Royals would get the win and that was enough to move them into second place in the A.L. Central even if it is only their second game it is nice to see the Royals out of the basement.

The Bad and The Good from Royals Season Opener

The 2012 season has begun for the Kansas City Royals, and the season began with a thud, rather than cheers and whistles. Tied 0-0 as Bruce Chen left the game after the 6th inning, the Royals lost the season opener 5-0. The Bad The Royals Bullpen Bruce Chen threw a wonderful game. The bullpen, however, did not. Aaron Crow entered a fresh set in the 7th and proceeded to strike...

Pujols gets first hit, Angels fall to Royals

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- Luke Hochevar took a shutout into the seventh inning and the Kansas City Royals got solo homers from Eric Hosmer and Mike Moustakas against Dan Haren in a 6-3 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday. Albert Pujols got his first hit with Los Angeles, a double in the fourth. Hochevar (1-0) was charged with two runs and five hits over 6 1-3 innings...

Game Recap 4/8/12: The more things change... - Royals 7, Angels 3

They say that the more things change the more things stay the same.  For the Angels in 2012, that adage rings particularly true through the first series of the season. Royals 7, Angels 3 The Angels have a new slugger in Albert Pujols and a new old slugger in Kendrys Morales.  The Angels have a new catcher.  The Angels have a new set of high expectations. The Angels still can...

Hochevar sharp in Royals' win over Angels

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- Luke Hochevar took a shutout into the seventh inning and the Kansas City Royals got solo homers from Eric Hosmer and Mike Moustakas against Dan Haren in a 6-3 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday. Albert Pujols got his first hit with Los Angeles, a double in the fourth. Hochevar (1-0) was charged with two runs and five hits over 6 1-3 innings...

Pujols signing a disaster for Angels

Albert Pujols is hitless (in large part due to the mastery of China-manian Bruce Chen) as an Angel and the St. Louis Cardinals are undefeated without their former MVP slugger.  This is the worst possible start to the season for those that are envious of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball franchise (see Cub fans), and the best possible outcome for goober* Cardinal enthusiast that...

Game Recap 4/7/12 -- The Hangover -- Royals 6 Angels 3

You could see this one coming from a mile away, what with the glow of the Angels' Opening Day win shining brightly. After last night, I would have bet money the Royals were going to come out and do what they could to win. And even though I believe Dan Haren will have a great year, it was apparent from the outset that he didn't have it today. Couple that with the fact that...

Angels minor league Opening Day observations

Austin Wood (#30 prospect on the MWAH/LAAI Top Prospect List) looks like he’s going to be jumping up the prospect lists pretty soon.  His fastball was sitting 97-98, his delivery is extremely smooth, it’s an EFFORTLESS 97-98.  His slider is absolutely lethal, reminds me a lot of Jepsen’s.  He loses his release point often though, and when that happens he’s dangerously...

Line of the Day: Kendrys Morales

Los Angeles Angels designated hitter Kendrys Morales went 4-for-4 with a double and two runs in a 6-3 loss to the Kansas City Royals. The four hits lifted his season’s batting average to .714 (5-for-7). Some victories are not just won on the scoreboard, though. Morales’ victory is finally being back on the field and producing. Line: 4 AB | 2 R | 4 H | 0 RBI; 2B My fantasy perspective...

Chen strong through six, Royals fall to Angels

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- Jered Weaver struck out 10 in eight dominant innings of four-hit ball, Peter Bourjos' bases-loaded infield single broke open a scoreless game in the eighth inning, and the Los Angeles Angels won Albert Pujols' hitless debut, 5-0 over the Kansas City Royals on Friday night. Erick Aybar put a bases-loaded triple down the right field line moments after...

Hochevar Baffles Angels - Los Angeles Angels Game Recap (4-7-2012)

Royals-Athletics Preview

The Kansas City Royals are coming off an impressive series victory thanks in large part to Eric Hosmer. The Oakland Athletics have a good idea what kind of difference the first baseman can make. Hosmer looks to continue his hot hitting as the Royals go for a third straight win when they visit the Athletics for the first of three contests Monday night. Hosmer collected four hits...

Game Recap 4/6/12: Weave's Steadying Hand - Angels 5, Royals 0

There is a lot of hoople and hyperbole that surrounds Opening Day that, by the third inning, usually fades into the background. Players feed off the initial adrenaline before collapsing back into the routine of the game. Tonight this effect was on full display. Some things were new. Albert Pujols got a huge ovation then went out and put up an 0-3 with an intentional walk. Vernon...
