Pro Sports Daily:
Even if the Pirates' superb pitching begins to sputter -- and it surely didn't through the 5-4 victory Thursday night in Cincinnati -- they have no shortage of solutions. Yes, even with Jeff Karstens getting reinjured in a rehabilitation start Thursday night. Prospect Rudy Owens, a 24-year-old lefty, is banging down the door at Triple-A Indianapolis with a 4-2 record, an International League-best 2.35 ERA, 51 strikeouts and just 10 walks over 72 2/3 innings. "Rudy's been outstanding," Indianapolis manager Dean Treanor said. "He's going right at hitters, putting the ball where he wants, and he's getting people out." Owens was a two-time Minor League Player of the Year in the Pirates' system heading into 2011, but his first experience in Triple-A brought a 5.05 ERA and serious doubts about his pedigree. Some in management were displeased, too, that his arm wasn't in the best shape coming into spring training of that year. "...

A lot of talk was going around about the Indianapolis Indians having four catchers on their roster after Tony Sanchez was promoted earlier this week. That situation seems to have been taken care of as the Bucs are shipping Kris...
Some leftovers from yesterday…
First round pick Mark Appel had a rough game yesterday in his second postseason start. He allowed 5 earned runs in 4 innings in what ended up being an awful 17-1 loss to Florida State. Appel completely lost his control late in his outing – he walked five (two with the bases loaded), hit two batters, and threw a wild pitch. His college season will...

Every win is enjoyable, but this one really meant a lot for the Pirates. It was a back-and-forth contest on the road with the division leader, and they ended up pulling it off in improbable fashion to win the series (their fourth in a row) and complete a winning road trip. Awesome.
For some reason, all the Pirates wins on this road trip started off pretty poorly. This game was...

Good win last night, nice to see Erik Bedard with a really solid game. Sadly the bogus Reds also won, so the division picture in that regard is still unchanged. Plenty of time to catch up though! First Pitch: 7:15 PM EST Where To Watch: Fox, MLB.TV Hope no one outside of Pittsburgh and [...]
