Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Kris Medlen has been dialed in since joining the rotation back on July 31st. Medlen, 7-0 with a 0.81 ERA since then, has proved dominant for the Braves who find themselves sitting atop the NL Wild Card standings. The Braves are well ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals and Los Angeles Dodgers, two teams currently battling for that newest Wild Card spot, hoping to avoid being left out of one of the most exciting playoff chases in recent MLB history. All of this leaving the Braves feeling pretty good about where they stand and feeling even better about their emerging ace. Last night [Friday] Medlen punched out a career high 13 batters in seven innings of work, only allowing one earned run against the Washington Nationals; Medlen’s only run given up to Nationals rookie Bryce Harper, who jacked a solo shot home run in the sixth inning. Medlen worked in relief for the Braves up until July 31st as a means to prepare himelf properly after he underwent Tommy John...

No win for Medlen, Braves victorious anyway

ATLANTA The confidence never left Kris Medlen. Not when he had Tommy John surgery. Not when he missed nearly an entire season while rehabbing his right elbow. And not when he started this season in the Braves' bullpen. That's just how he thinks, how he attacks life. It's not cockiness or arrogance. He just thinks he can beat you. Medlen is the guy with the straight...

Happy Kris Medlen Day, Braves Fans, But Are you Nervous Yet?

With 2011 still painfully fresh in their minds and an eerily similar position in the standings, the 2012 Atlanta Braves have to be at least a little nervous about where they stand in relation to the playoffs. I know it took a historic collapse and one of the most dramatic nights in baseball history to see the Wild Card lead finally disappear in 2011, the 2012 standings look very...

Error in 9th sends Braves over Nationals

ATLANTA (AP) -- Kris Medlen struck out a career-high 13 and the Atlanta Braves pulled out a 2-1 victory over the Washington Nationals when Andrelton Simmons scored on a throwing error in the ninth inning Friday night. Simmons reached on an infield single against Sean Burnett (1-2) and scurried to third when Michael Bourn lined a single that dropped in right field. Pinch hitter Tyler...

He was on the disabled list with right shoulder inflammation for three weeks. Sheets lost his third straight start Aug. 23 at San Francisco, dropping to 4-4 with a 3.54 ERA in eight starts. Nats Could All But End Braves Hopes Of Division Championship This Weekend

For the final time in regular season play, the Washington Nationals (89-54) will face the Atlanta Braves (81-63) with the smell of the post-season thick in the air. From 8.5 games back, the Braves’ hopes of overtaking the Nationals for the division title are dwindling; nevertheless, this will be an all-important series for both teams. For the Nationals,  ...

McCann is day-to-day with right hamstring tendinitis after leaving Saturday’s game

By Anthony Caruso III The Atlanta Braves saw catcher Brian McCann leave Saturday’s game. McCann left the game after just two innings. He has been diagnosed with tendinitis in his right hamstring. He has been replaced by back up catcher David Ross, who will fill in for McCann until he is ready to return. He is considered day-to-day. He grounded out in his lone at-bat in the game...

Kris Continues Medlen With Opposing Hitters

Spare me while I talk about my team for a moment. I almost missed out on my head to head playoffs. Another team grabbed the final spot one week before the postseason was to begin. Oh no, it was that mean old Mr. McGaragle, and he would have gotten away with it too, if it weren’t for that Medlen Kris (and that dumb dog!) Yes, Kris Medlen continued his brilliance last night pitching...

Nationals-Braves Preview

Just in the last few days, the Washington Nationals have turned an NL East title from a likelihood to a near certainty. The Atlanta Braves, meanwhile, may want to start considering Kris Medlen for a potential one-game wild-card playoff. Medlen will look to shut down the Nationals again Friday night as these teams open a three-game set in Atlanta, with the Braves likely needing...

Nat’s Magic Number: Still 11

Our Washington Nationals (formerly your Montreal Expos) (89-55) lost to the Atlanta Braves (82-63) 2-1 last night down in Georgia (where the Devil went down to according to Charlie Daniels).  Bryce Harper generated the Nats’ offense with a solo home run. It was not your normal game.(AP Photo/John Bazemore)Kris Medlen, who started the season as a little-known reliever, had a career...
