Found June 04, 2013 on Atlanta Bullpen:
Atlanta Braves starter Kris Medlen was relaxed and upbeat after he garnered his second win of the season Monday night against the Pittsburgh Pirates, 7-2.  But nothing new there, win or lose, Medlen’s demeanor is always about the same. The pitcher who has been compared to Greg Maddux on the field, rides the same placid waters as the mellow Maddux did when off the field. Last season when Medlen’s win streak extended to 23 games, he didn’t get all chest-pumping excited.  He took the long, record-setting win streak in stride. Conversely, he wasn’t down when he got smoked in the back of the leg, and had to leave his last start against the Toronto Blue Jays after only two innings.  Or when his record stretched to a disappointing 1-6, more poor run support from the offense, than poor pitching, as his 3.48 ERA entering Monday’s game against the Pirates attests. Medlen keeps things simple, and that basic approach allows him to stay on an even keel.  He talked about his simple approach when asked about finally getting a win, “It has been a while, but I always try to keep our team in the game, and I always try to keep it as close as I can,” he said.  ”With our offense, we are an explosive style offense as you saw today.  Keep it close and we can win it with a two or three run homer.” Perhaps using some power of positive thinking, is Medlen’s secret.  He woke up before yesterday’s game with a simple thought. “It was one of those days I woke up and just told myself, you’re going to do good today and everything is going to click,” Medlen explained.  ”For the most part it did.” Oh yeah, Medlen’s pitching line for the game.  He pitched seven innings and gave up only one unearned run on seven hits, while striking out six and walking none. The Atlanta Braves Get Some Very Strange Advice On How To Be Successful

The Atlanta Braves played the Pirates on Tuesday night and the game was televised on the Atlanta based SportsSouth television station.  During the game some of the graphics guys behind the scenes made a small mistake by not updating the text beneath the ‘FORD pitching Keys To Success’ graphic and the result was pretty hilarious.  Check it out. Three Cuts: Teheran, Gattis help Braves sweep Bucs

ATLANTA Here are three things we learned from the Braves' 5-0 victory over the Pirates (35-25), clinching a midweek series sweep at Turner Field. 1. Julio Teheran was a harmless Brandon Inge single from baseball immortality (for one day, at least) As a general rule, I don't publicly acknowledge no-hitters or the possibility of a no-no until one out in the eighth inning...

Rookie Teheran flirts with no-hitter in 5-0 Braves win

ATLANTA -- Julio Teheran held Pittsburgh without a hit for 7 2-3 innings before settling for a combined one-hit shutout, and the Atlanta Braves beat the Pirates 5-0 on Wednesday. Tehran (4-2) gave up one hit with two walks and set a career high with 11 strikeouts in eight innings in the Braves' fifth straight win, including a sweep of the three-game series. Pinch-hitter Brandon...

Braves Easy Road Ends

The Braves are only 7-13 against teams with a winning record The Braves have overcome many challenges this season, most notably injuries.  They lead the NL East with a 34-22 record, six and a half games ahead of the slumping Washington Nationals. So everything is great down on Capitol Avenue, right? Well, not exactly.  When you break down the Braves 34-22 record, they are 27-9...

Three Cuts: Simmons, Braves walk-off against Pirates

The Atlanta Braves won yet another extra-inning game with a 5-4 win in 10 innings against Pittsburgh Tuesday night. Here are three observations from the game: 1. Andrelton Simmons puts on his cape for the first time In the ninth inning, it was Freddie Freeman who nearly played the game's hero. The Braves first baseman belted a shot to deep right-center off Pirates closer Jason...

Braves 5, Pirates 4(10)

Andrelton Simmons hit a game-ending double off Mark Melancon in the 10th inning, lifting the Atlanta Braves to a 5-4 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday night. Melancon (1-1) walked Dan Uggla to open the 10th. B.J. Upton struck out after fouling off an attempted sacrifice bunt. Melancon then hit pinch-hitter Reed Johnson with a pitch, bringing Simmons to the plate. Simmons...

Braves 7, Pirates 2

The Braves blasted their way past the Bucs to take game one of this week’s series in Atlanta, as A.J. Burnett suffered through his worst start of the season. It was clear early on that Burnett wasn’t happy with home plate ump Dan Iassogna’s strike zone (it definitely did appear to be tight), and he walked three hitters in the first four innings. The third walk was to Freddie...

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Atlanta Braves – Game 58

What a win yesterday.  You could almost see that Garrett Jones homer coming after he struck out earlier in the game with men on.  I’m pretty sure two people could have caught that ball.  He had to have split it in half. Right back at it though, a plane ride to Atlanta and the grind…

Pirates-Braves Preview

After watching the Pittsburgh Pirates' lineup show some spark, A.J. Burnett is hoping for similar hitting from his teammates when on the mound. The Atlanta Braves' Kris Medlen likely has the same wish for some more support as each pitcher tries to end lengthy winless stretches in Monday night's series opener in Atlanta. The Pirates (35-22) had scored one run in three...

Daily FanDuel Picks: June 4, 2013

I didn’t get a chance to post a lineup yesterday morning, but I did submit an entry around 6:00 pm EST. My squad was headlined by Kris Medlen at starting pitcher (17 points) and featured strong offensive contributions from Domonic Brown (8.75), Freddie Freeman (8.5), and Erik Kratz (6.50). All-in-all, it was a 42-point day.Today I’m sticking with the “go with the proven pitcher”...
