Atlanta Braves relief pitcher Kris Medlen chatted with a group of young fans at Wrigley Field before Tuesday night's game against the Chicago Cubs, but only had one baseball to give them. Rather than picking one kid over the other using the "eenie, meenie, miney, moe" method, Medlen just tossed the ball into the stands and let the kids race after it.
That's a good way to give the kid a ball - make him work for it.

Livan Hernandez spreads wisdom throughout bullpen
The guy with the answers is never too far away whenever Craig Kimbrel needs advice or an opinion, or could just use a laugh.
He can usually just turn to his left or right to find his knowledgeable teammate, the veteran who is quick to share his wisdom, a joke or two, and a smile that disappears only when he enters a game.
Kimbrel, the Braves overpowering young closer, has come...
Mike Minor's struggles reflect Braves' rotation
When the Pirates battered Mike Minor early last week, Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said it was just one of those days.
Hes allowed to have one of these outings, he said after the Pirates banged out eight hits and seven runs and 6 13 innings against Minor 11 days ago.
But that was before Minor was introduced to the ERA-inflating, confidence-diminishing altitude of Coors Field...

The win put the Braves back even with the young Washington Nationals, who lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The 2012 Minor League Report – Week 6
Former Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Jair Jurrjens threw well in his second start in the minor leagues, allowing two runs in eight innings with a walk and three strikeouts. In his first start at Triple-A, he allowed one run in seven innings with four strikeouts. Jurrjens would likely have a slight edge over AAA teammate Julio Teheran if the Braves needed a starter from the...
You Can’t get rid of the 31 Move
Just last week, Atlanta Braves pitcher Tim Hudson was making his second start back from back surgery and with runners on first and third, he pulled the old fake to third throw to first play. This time it worked. Michael Cuddyer was caught off first base and Hudson took a moment, surprised that the play had worked, before delivering the ball to second baseman Dan Uggla who then...
Braves 3, Cubs 1
Dan Uggla hit a tiebreaking two-run single in the eighth inning and the Atlanta Braves beat the Chicago Cubs 3-1 Tuesday night.
Michael Bourn reached on a leadoff single and Kerry Wood issued two walks before Uggla drove a 1-1 pitch back up the middle for his third hit of the game. Freddie Freeman helped set up the big inning by hustling down the line to prevent a potential double...
