Arizona's Jason Kubel hit a career-high three homers in six innings Saturday night, driving in six runs against the Houston Astros. Kubel, who has 20 home runs and 70 RBIs, hit a two-run homer in the first inning and a three-run shot in the fourth, both off starter Dallas Keuchel. He added a solo homer off reliever Enerio Del Rosio in the sixth. Kubel struck out in the third and the eighth. Kubel, who had a two-homer game Thursday at Cincinnati, became the seventh Arizona player to homer three times in a game. Five players have had three-homer games this season, not including Josh Hamilton, who hit four in a game.

Confused on the Justin Upton situation

The Arizona Diamondbacks' Justin Upton is not having as good a season as last season. That fact is obvious. But how and why does that translate to wanting to trade a former 1st Round draft pick who is only twenty-four and already has 99 homers to his credit? And how bad is his current season? His fWAR is the exact same as Nick Swisher. And even with his diminished season, Upton...

D-backs finish up series with woeful Astros

With plenty of help from slugger Jason Kubel, the Arizona Diamondbacks have continued their recent home success at the expense of the lowly Houston Astros. The Diamondbacks look to complete a three-game sweep by matching a season high with their sixth straight home victory Sunday against the Astros. One night after Arizona (46-48) broke out for a 13-8 win over Houston, Kubel hit...

D-backs add Bergesen to bullpen, demote Shaw

PHOENIX -- With Josh Collmenter back in the starting rotation, the Diamondbacks addressed the need for a long reliever by adding newcomer Brad Bergesen on Sunday. Bergesen was acquired off waivers from the Orioles on Friday. Im really looking forward to it. There is definitely a little bit of nervousness, but a good nervousness, Bergesen said. The D-backs optioned Bryan Shaw to...

Upton, Drew on opposite ends of trade talk

PHOENIX For Justin Upton, trade talk appears over for this deadline season. For Stephen Drew, it may be just heating up. "That's nice to hear," Upton said when told that Diamondbacks managing partner Ken Kendrick said Thursday that discussions involving him were all but dead. "He's a man of his word. I'm sure he wouldn't say that if it wasn't...

D-backs activate veteran Saito for stretch run

PHOENIX - The Diamondbacks added a fresh arm to their bullpen when they activated Takashi Saito from the disabled list Saturday, the first time Saito has been with the team this season. The D-backs have succeeded at limiting their relievers' workload -- David Hernandez leads the bullpen with 40 13 innings, a figure that is not even in the National League's top 20 -- but...

Diamondbacks 8, Astros 2

Jason Kubel homered for the sixth time in five games, Chris Young added a three-run shot and the Arizona Diamondbacks beat Houston 8-2 Sunday to complete a high-scoring, three-game sweep of the staggering Astros. Kubel, coming off a three-homer game Saturday night, led off the second inning with his 21st of the season. Young's homer highlighted a season-high seven-run sixth...

D-backs notebook: Bad luck dogs Saunders

Joe Saunders made his second consecutive quality start Thursday since coming off the disabled list following the All-Star break, although he had nothing but a no-decision to show for it. His 4-6 record does not tell the story of his season -- he has received an average of 4.74 runs per game per nine innings as the pitcher of record this year, the third lowest among NL qualifiers...

Rockies-Diamondbacks Preview

Jason Kubel backed Ian Kennedy with a powerful offensive display last week, and he hasn't cooled off since. Kennedy will be on the mound Monday night when the Arizona Diamondbacks seek a season high-tying fourth straight victory in the opener of a three-game set with the visiting Colorado Rockies. Kubel went 3 for 4 with a second-inning homer to help Arizona (47-48) complete...

D-backs take on NL-worst Astros at home

The Arizona Diamondbacks are probably thrilled to be back home facing the lowly Houston Astros. Tigers and D-Backs talking Drew/Peralta swap?

According to Jack Magruder of FOXSportsArizona.com, the Tigers and Diamondbacks have discussed a trade involving infielders Stephen Drew and Jhonny Peralta. The Tigers have been interested in Drew before and are one of many teams inquiring on him this season. The 29-year-old Drew has been struggling somewhat this season though hitting just .214/.274/.286 in 62 plate appearances...
