Chicago Cubs pitcher Kyuji Fujikawa had a bit of bad luck during Monday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers when a foul ball deflected off his foot and hit him in the chin.
It happened in the bottom of the fourth inning as Cubs batter Alfonso Soriano hit a ground ball foul into the Cubs bullpen. Fujikawa tried to make a kick save on it, but the ball kicked up into his chest and then into his face. Fortunately the ball wasn't traveling that fast and Fujikawa wasn't hurt on the play.

Yesterday, Chicago Cubs closer Kyuji Fujikawa might have become the first player in Major League Baseball history to kick a foul ball into his own face. It happened in the fifth inning of Monday afternoon's tilt between the Cubs and the Milwaukee Brewers as Chicago outfielder Alfonso Soriano hit a foul ball near the Cubs bullpen. Watch as Fujikawa tries to stop it with his...
The Chicago Cubs will most likely have a fairly terrible season, but at least they are already laughing at themselves. The only really good medicine for Cubs fans, myself included, is some good self deprecating humor and a few Old Style’s. During the Cubs 7-4 loss to the Brewers on Monday, reliever Kyuji Fujikawa was sitting in the bully and tried to field a foul ball by kicking...
Chicago Cubs manager Dale Sveum says Carlos Marmol is out as closer and rookie Kyuji Fujikawa will take over the role.
Marmol blew a save opportunity in Saturday's 6-5 loss to the Atlanta Braves when brothers B.J. and Justin Upton hit solo homers in the ninth inning. Sveum made the decision before Sunday's game.
Fujikawa didn't fare much better in a three-run eighth...
The Chicago Cubs are spending less money and winning fewer games, but it could be a good thing.
Between 2008-2011, the Cubs spent no less than $120m on payroll, excluding special bonuses and players that were called up or acquired mid-season. In the same time period, Cubs losses increased every year (64, 78, 87, and 91, respectively). After ballooning in 2010, the Cubs payroll...
Chicago Cubs closer Carlos Marmol has been pulled from his ninth inning role after his first blown save of the year last night in Atlanta. Kyuji Fujikawa will replace Marmol as the Cubs' fireman, according to reports.
Marmol is actually reportedly taking the demotion well, stating "You can't complain about it. They say it's better for me and for the team. I&...
It was only a matter of time before the Chicago Cubs made a change. Carlos Marmol has never proven himself capable of handling Major League closer duties. He lost his job early last season only to earn it back. And now, he's lost it again.
Jesse Rogers of ESPN Chicago says the Cubs stripped Marmol of his closing duties after three outings that resulted in stressful...
CHICAGO (AP) The Chicago Cubs are on their second closer, and the season is only a week old. The Milwaukee Brewers are missing two key sluggers, and a third is struggling with a neck issue.
This should be quite the opener at Wrigley Field.
Chicago and Milwaukee are dealing with some early challenges heading into the first game of the season at the Cubs' longtime home on Monday...
It is 105 years and counting since the Chicago Cubs last won the World Series and few expect the drought to end this season.
At least their longtime home appears headed for a major upgrade: The team and the city appear to be close to announcing a long-awaited $500 million renovation project for Wrigley Field.
''I think it's going in the right direction,'' Cubs...

Cubs teammates came to the defense of the Chicago Cubs who last won the World Series on two separate occasions in the Chicago Cubs home opener.
“You lose some respect for the fans,” pitcher James major upgrade. The team and the city appear to be behind you no matter what. It’s not a project for Wrigley Field. He’s out there busting...
