The attorney defending the son of Los Angeles Angels outfielder Torii Hunter in a sexual assault case says he has a taped telephone conversation in which the boy's 16-year-old accuser recants. Todd Shapiro is the attorney for 17-year-old Darius McClinton-Hunter. He told reporters Thursday that a recording was made Wednesday of a conversation between the girl and a teenage friend of the Hunter family. The attorney says the alleged victim does ''a complete 180'' from the story that led police in the Dallas suburb of Prosper to arrest McClinton-Hunter on Monday. Torii Hunter has been away from the Angels since his son's arrest. He and his son attended the Thursday news conference but didn't speak. Calls to Prosper police and the Collin County district attorney's office weren't returned.

Hunter left the team on Monday and when Hunter will return is anyone’s guess...

Santana pitches Angels to win, stability in sight

ANAHEIM, Calif. Even when things were at their worst, Ervin Santana remained steady. He never changed his stuff, never lost his confidence, never blamed the Angels' offense for his string of losses. He just kept pitching. Santana figured it would pay off; he just didn't know when. But now he's won two starts in a row, and maybe it's a sign that the Angels are finding...

Angels Shake Things Up…A Bit.

Was Mickey Hatcher encouraging Albert Pujols to spend 2012 doing the best Wilson Valdez impression he could? The Angels fired their long-standing hitting coach last night in an attempt to revive an offense that is on pace to set a record for futility in at least one category. It’s an understandable move in some ways; it won’t hurt to change things up even if Hatcher can hardly...

Santana, Pujols help Angels rebound past A's

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- Ervin Santana struck out nine during 7 2-3 innings of four-hit ball, Albert Pujols drove in two runs with infield singles, and the Los Angeles Angels rebounded from yet another shutout loss with a 4-0 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday night. Mike Trout went 3 for 4 with a homer and three runs scored for the Angels, who finally produced enough...

Weaver run early agaisnt explosive Rangers

ARLINGTON, Texas Jered Weaver was not auditioning for "American Idol," but as he walked off the mound in the fourth inning Sunday night, he sang along to his own exit music. While the song "Hit the Road, Jack" played over the stadium public address system, Weaver could be seen mouthing the words to the Ray Charles hit. "I was singing the song, 'Hit...

Game Recap 5/15/12: Turning the tables - Angels 4, Athletics 0

After getting shutout for the eighth time last night, the Angels responded the only way they knew how, pitching a shutout of their own.  That would be the fifth time that they have been on the good end of a shutout, meaning in 13 of their 34 games this season, one team has not scored.  Feel the excitement! But seriously, this was actually a very encouraging effort from the Angels...

Screengrab Snafu: Something is your key to the game

This key to the game from the Athletics/Angels broadcast is as dynamic as LAA's offense has been this season.  With Albert Pujols currently on pace to fall into the Bobby Bonilla pantheon of terrible contracts after a month and a half, it may be a long season for the Halos.  Then again, The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim via Orange County and Sunny Southern California went...

White Sox-Angels Preview

With one of his best showings at the plate this season, Albert Pujols took another step toward ending his early season struggles. The high-priced first baseman, though, will have to continue that work and try to rediscover his power with a new hitting coach when the Los Angeles Angels begin a two-game set against the visiting Chicago White Sox on Wednesday night. Pujols is 8 for...

Angels had no business challenging Hamilton

ARLINGTON, Texas The Los Angeles Angels decided to challenge the best hitter in baseball when they didn't have to. Already trailing by four runs in the fourth inning, Angels manager Mike Scioscia allowed his ace, Jered Weaver, to pitch to Josh Hamilton with one out and runners on second and third. Weaver may have thrown a no-hitter earlier this month, but he had just given...

Angels shaky, but they're not shaking

Perhaps you heard: El Hombre is El Stinko. A month and a half into his first year playing for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Albert Pujols might as well be Mario Mendoza. The 240 million man has so far hit only one home run as he nears 150 at-bats. He's batting below .200 and slugging below .300. Among the not-so-illustrious names with better 2012 power numbers than Pujols...

On hitting coaches

I wouldn't be a blogger if I didn't begin this post by apologizing for my lengthy absence from these pages. I have a variety of excuses. Would you like to hear them? Drop me a line if you would. We'll chat it out. Mickey Hatcher got fired today. He had been the Angels' hitting coach since 2000, when Mike Scioscia took over the manager role. Twelve full seasons of...
