The way San Francisco Giants center fielder Angel Pagan has hit in the leadoff spot this season, it makes you wonder why he was ever taken out of the role. Pagan and Melky Cabrera, who had been hitting second, both fit that description, so Cabrera took over at No. 3, Pagan was inserted into the fifth spot and Gregor Blanco, who had emerged as an effective leadoff man, hit first. Pagan's hitting streak ended shortly thereafter, and he soon cooled off considerably. As the season wore on and his slump became more prolonged, his frustration became more and more evident. But that all changed Aug. 3 when manager Bruce Bochy -- again in need of a leadoff man with Blanco mired in a slump and the team coming off a horri...

Tim Lincecum heading towards early retirement

San Francisco, CA. Tim Lincecum may be looking at the end of his career at the young age of 28. Gone are the days of pitchers like Nolan Ryan and Roger Clemens pitching late into their thirties and into their forties. Pitchers just burn out earlier in their careers now due to the pressure to win, and expectations of young players to make it to the Majors before they are ready...

Giants moving on quickly, winning

Outside the Polo Grounds Pub and Grill, in the shadow of AT&T Park, the sign reads, "No More Melk, but Plenty of Beer." Inside the San Francisco Giants' clubhouse, the mood isn't quite that frivolous. But what did you expect the Giants to do after losing Melky Cabrera to a 50-game suspension, quit? The Giants don't operate like that. Baseball doesn'...

Freeman's homers not enough vs. Giants.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Angel Pagan had a go-ahead triple among his four hits to help back Ryan Vogelsong's first victory in three starts, and the San Francisco Giants beat the Atlanta Braves 5-3 on Friday night for their fifth straight win. Pablo Sandoval hit an RBI double and also scored the tying run for the NL West-leading Giants on a wild pitch in the third, and Buster Posey...

How do Giants counter rival's deal?

Bonus notes and thoughts from our MLB on FOX broadcast of the Braves-Giatns game on Saturday ... So, how will the San Francisco Giants counter the Los Angeles Dodgers' blockbuster? Giants' Zito has his way with Braves

Barry Zito has given up just two runs in 15 innings in two starts against the Atlanta Braves this season. Imagine the dilemma manager Bruce Bochy would have if the San Francisco Giants and Braves meet in the playoffs. Remember, Zito was left off the playoff roster in 2010. The way he has shut down the Braves this year, it would be tough to keep him away from the mound if the...

Fantasy Baseball: Examining Values of PED Players

As Melky Cabrera has reminded us, we can’t believe that everything we see on the baseball diamond is legit. As a fan of the game, it’s extremely frustrating, I know.
