Last night the Phillies showed us the team we’ve been missing in an exciting win against the Reds. Doc definitely didn’t have his best performance, but he was still dominant against Cincinnati's pitcher Mike Leake. The Fightin’s started off slow, as the Reds took an early 2-0 lead in the first, but they quickly changed pace and got on the board later that inning with Howard’s RBI single sending Pierre home. In the third Howard struck again, sending a solo homer into right field to tie the game. Kratz’s 410-foot home run in the following inning made the game 3-2, Phils.  The fifth was pretty rough for Halladay; Cincinnati earned 2 runs and put themselves back into the lead. Just as we thought it might be another loss for the Phils, the offence showed up and showed up hot. It was a beautiful 12-5 win for the Phillies. Tonight at 7:05 Cliff Lee (3.83 ERA, 2-7) will square off against Reds ace Homer Bailey  (4.16 ERA, 10-8) at Citizens Bank as Bailey works to help his team tie...

Phillies' Lee approaching one-year anniversary of last home win

Cliff Lee will take the mound on Sunday, when the Philadelphia Phillies close out a three-game series with the first-place Washington Nationals at Citizens Bank Park. It will be Lee's final chance to win a game at home before coming up on the one-year anniversary of his last win at the Phillies' nine-year-old ballpark. "I barely remember yesterday," Lee said when...

Phillies Rally, Bullpen Can’t Hold On

It was a close game that went back and forth, but the Phillies couldn’t come through to beat the Reds. -Cliff Lee’s line: 6.2 innings, 3 runs (2 earned), 9 hits, 1 walk, and 9 strikeouts.  Lee pitched great until the seventh inning; he couldn’t get out the jam and allowed the Reds to take a 3-1 lead. -The Phillies immediately rallied in the bottom of the seventh.  They were...

UnluckyLee

I am not here to talk about BABIP, ERC, DIPS or any other Sabermetric stats that "prove" Cliff Lee is unlucky and is still having a great season (Cliff Lee-esque if you will).  Nope, I'm here to talk about his wins, and in that department nobody can argue that he's been extremely unlucky.Through 21 starts, Lee has a 3.83 ERA and 1.16 WHIP.  Honestly, that should...

Top Play: Kevin Frandsen bails out Cliff Lee

Journeyman infielder Kevin Frandsen bailed out starting pitcher Cliff Lee on Tuesday night with an excellent diving stop at third base. The play occured in the top of the eighth inning with the bases loaded and no outs in a one run game. Frandsen made a diving stop and threw a strike to home plate to force out Zack Cozart. The Reds failed to score a run in the inning, but went on...

Phillippe Aumont called up, will he relieve Cliff Lee?

Phillippe Aumont, one of the prospects received in the 2009 trade of Cliff Lee to the Seattle Mariners, has been called up by the Philadelphia Phillies to replace Jeremy Horst. Horst has been placed on the paternity leave list. As irony would have it, Aumont will be activated for tonight' game, which will be started by Lee. I am not sure how many times this has happened in the...

Phillies Fans to Get First Look at Cliff Lee Return as Philippe Aumont Heads to the Big Leagues

Wikipedia Commons What seems like an eternity ago the Phillies traded ace pitcher Cliff Lee, fresh off of a World Series run and  two dominant World Series games for three prospects:  Phillippe Aumont, Tyson Gillies, and J.C. Ramirez.  The move designed to "replenish the farm system" has yet to yield a major league player.  That is, until today. Phillies reliever...

Phils and Reds Play Cat and Mouse, Reds Come Out On Top, 5-4

Cliff Lee received another no-decision tonight in a back-and-forth game between the Phillies and Reds. Both teams battled for a lead throughout the final three innings, but the Reds would come out victorious.  The Phillies put up a run on the board in the first inning; Ryan Howard singled to deep right to score Jimmy Rollins. That's the only scoring that went on for seven...

Reds Top Phils, 5-4 as Cliff Lee Remains Winless at Home.

Final: Reds 5, Phillies 4. WP: Jonathan Broxton (3-3, 3.02 ERA) LP: Jonathan Papelbon (3-5, 2.86 ERA) SV: Aroldis Chapman (30) In a roller-coaster battle of a game, similar to the first game of the series in which the Phillies ultimately prevailed, a ninth-inning home run by Zack Cozart off of Jonathan Papelbon would prove to be the winning run for the Cincinnati Reds. Coming...

Reds still struggling against Philadelphia

The Cincinnati Reds have baseball's second-best record and appear to be headed for just their second postseason appearance in the last 17 years. They have to be thrilled the Philadelphia Phillies almost certainly won't be around in October as well. The Reds look to avoid losing their eighth straight and 16th out of 17 against the Phillies on Tuesday night at Citizens Bank...

Philles Can Still Make the Playoffs! #YouGottaBelieve

Many of us fans believe the Philadelphia Phillies are completely done, but are they? With a win over the Brewers last night, the Phillies record is now 56-65 putting the 11 games out of the Wild Card. With 41 games remaining this season, it becomes a long shot, but definitely not impossible. If the Fightins win 34 of their next 40 games, they will improve their record to 90-71. In...
