First baseman Carlos Lee didn't waste any time making an impact for his new team, the Marlins.

Hours after he arrived at Miller Park following a trade with Houston, Lee doubled and scored Miami's first run in the fourth inning. He finished with two hits.

"He's as advertised. He's a professional hitter. It doesn't take too long to see that," said left fielder Logan Morrison.

The Marlins gave up two of their top prospects (third baseman Matt Dominguez and left-hander Rob Rasmussen) to get Lee, a 36-year-old veteran who drove in 94 runs last year.

"I know I can do still it," said Lee. "With this team, I'm going to have lot more opportunities and I'm looking forward to the challenge."

Manager Ozzie Guillen said Lee, who hit third Thursday, will also offer protection in the middle of the batting order.

"He's going to make Hanley (Ramirez) better, he's going to make (Jose) Reyes better, he's going to take heat away from a lot of guys, (Giancarlo) Stanton, Morrison. It's not just on the field. They can take a lot of great stuff and hope they learn from him," Guillen said.

Pitcher Mark Buehrle said the Marlins couldn't resist teasing Lee after he struck out in the first inning, saying, "We didn't acquire you for this!"
