NEW YORK -- This time, the Boston Red Sox didn't have to worry about Jon Lester getting embarrassed. And the only message Adrian Gonzalez needed to send in Lester's defense was the two-run homer he provided in the first inning to help beat the New York Yankees 4-1 Saturday at Yankee Stadium. Lester looked more like the pitcher Boston had counted on entering the season, rather than the one whose woeful performance on July 22 left him in the middle of the latest controversy in a calamitous season. He limited the Yankees to one run on five hits in seven innings, shutting down their explosive offense in his second straight quality start. Yankee killer Pedro Ciriaco went 4-for-4, giving him 15 hits in 29 at-bats against Boston's bitter rival. "That has a good sound to it, another fine performance by Lester, it was," Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said of his starter, who has won two in a row after dropping five straight. "His ball was moving in on bo...

For the first time since May 19, the Red Sox have won two consecutive starts with Lester on the bump. It's only the third time this...

Jon Lester's Apparent Turnaround Likely Too Late and Other Thoughts From the Week in Baseball

Time is running out. This shouldn't come as news to any Red Sox fans, but after nother disappointing road trip, the Sox return home sitting 7 1/2 games back in the wild card race, with a handful of teams left they'd need to catapult to play October baseball. There's no doubt that it's time to start keeping an eye on the future, and we do plenty of that in this week...

Sox Beat Yanks Behind Lester's Strong Start

Jon Lester took the mound and continued his climb back to dominance with another nice performance.  Lester was also helped out by some nice performances from Nick Punto and Pedro Ciriaco.  That is probably not how you would have written in up in April, but then again...is anything this year? Jon Lester took the mound against the Yankees looking for his 2nd win in a row.  Thankfully...

Your Morning Dump... Where Boston becomes less desirable by the day

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. And now? “I don’t know,” ace lefty Jon Lester [stats] told...

Report: Shoppach, not Gonzalez, responsible for message to Red Sox ownership

Former Boston Red Sox catcher Kelly Shoppach, not Adrian Gonzalez, was the player primarily responsible for crafting the text message sent to team ownership in July complaining about manager Bobby Valentine, the New York Daily News reported Sunday. Matt Kemp, Don Mattingly Explode During Lengthy Tirades Following Ejections Against Pirates (Video)

Adrian Gonzalez was ejected from the bench on Wednesday night, a decision which he didn't seem too upset about. Moments later, his manager, Bobby Valentine, came out to passively argue that decision by the umpire. Shortly thereafter, Valentine was given the thumb and sent to the showers. A day later, Matt Kemp and Don Mattingly showed Gonzalez and Valentine how it was really...
