As far as I know, this news doesn’t affect the Mariners chances of signing Prince Fielder, so I apologize in advance for the lack of update on that front. I do, however, have some news to share. I underwent a bone marrow biopsy yesterday morning – my third one, in fact. The procedure is pretty crappy, and involves drilling into my tail bone to extract some bone and marrow samples for testing. On the list of fun things to have done to you, it ranks just slightly ahead of watching Carlos Peguero try to hit a curve ball. But, the test gave my doctors a chance to look beyond simple blood cell counts and hemoglobin levels to determine the current state of my recovery. A few minutes ago, they called with the results of the test. All clean, no leukemia anywhere to be found. With that, the roughly six months or so of treatment have come to an end. I can now return to something of a normal life, with only occasional trips to the clinic for check-ups and maintenance. Obvio...

Prince Fielder Is In Dallas, And Meeting With The Rangers

This news comes from a Bob Nightengale tweet, who stated that the free agent slugger and the defending AL champions were meeting at a Dallas-area hotel. Fielder would make a lot of sense for the Rangers, who suffered through Mitch Moreland at first base last year. Moreland had a .259/.320/.414 line last year for the Rangers and was worth just 0.4 fWAR, one of the worst marks in baseball...

Nationals Struggling to Sign Fielder Because of Darvish

The Washington Nationals didn't place a bid to purchase the rights Japanese pitcher Yu Darvish this offseason, but he may be the leading factor blocking Prince Fielder's arrival in DC.  Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com is reporting that Darvish and the Texas Rangers, the team that won exclusive negotiating rights to his contract, are not close to a deal. The Rangers paid a ...

Seattle gets their man Aaron Heilman Signs a minor league contract

Prince Fielder signed...No just joking The M's announced today that they've signed Aaron Heilman to a minjor league deal and he's invited to spring training with the major league club. Yes folks. He's coming to camp. He's competing for a backup position, but trust me Mariners fans I know this isn't the signing you wanted to hear about. Per hardballtalk...

Top Ten Remaining Free Agents

Prince Fielder headlines a handful of high-profile Scott Boras clients who remain available in free agency, but most of the offseason’s top free agents have signed contracts by now. Here’s a look at possible suitors for the top ten remaining free agents (ranking on MLBTR’s list of top 2012 free agents in parentheses): Prince Fielder (2) - Fielder will sign before Spring...

Prince Fielder Rumors: Friday

Prince Fielder will sign before Spring Training, but he probably won't agree to a long-term deal with the Dodgers or Marlins, or a one-year deal with the Brewers, according to yesterday's reports. Here are today's Fielder rumors, with the most recent updates up top: One executive who speaks with the Nationals regularly tells ESPN.com’s Jayson Stark that he’s...

Nats continue to pursue Fielder

HBT: Despite an earlier report saying the Nats weren't after the slugger, Prince Fielder is still very much a target for the team, as owners met with agent Scott Boras on Wednesday.

Miami Marlins have not changed stance on Fielder; Cepedes remains top target

In spite of the buzz out there about owner Jeffrey Loria meeting Scott Boras, who represents unsigned free agent Prince Fielder, the Marlins’ position on the slugging first baseman has not changed. According to a source who has spoken with their front office, they have not begun pursuing Fielder. The soon-to-be free agent to monitor is Yoenis Cespedes, who on Thursday will...

Holes to Fill (NL)

Congratulations to the newest member of the Hall of Fame Barry Larkin and onwards with the belated second part of my series on how contenders can use the remaining free agents to fill key gaps on their rosters: Miami Marlins Need: Centre field They might not be targeting a new centre fielder, they seem quite content with giving Chris Coughlin the job, but that doesn’t mean...
