The Arizona Diamondbacks were my pick to win the NL West before this season, and I'd say about 55% of people had the same general opinion as me. They're off to a 7-5 start right now, second in the division, but their season is going to get a lot more interesting in the next month or so. Yesterday, the Diamondbacks placed center fielder Chris Young on the DL with a slight tear in his shoulder ligament as well as a bruised shoulder after a great catch against the Pirates on Tuesday night. After making the catch, Young was pulled from the game. Before his injury, Young led Arizona in all three slash stats, as well as doubles, homers, and RBI. Young is coming off of back to back four win seasons for the Diamondbacks, and is a fantastic fielder in addition to being a good hitter. Superstar right fielder Justin Upton hasn't played in the field or gotten an at bat since Monday (though he did pinch run yesterday) due to a thumb injury. Upton first injured the thumb on April 8t...

D-backs place Young on DL; Upton still out

PHOENIX Chris Young was placed on the disabled list with a right shoulder contusion about 45 minutes before the Diamondbacks game against Pittsburgh on Wednesday afternoon. The move was not unexpected after Young, one of the hottest hitters in the National League, ran shoulder-first into the left-center field fence while catching a fly ball in the fourth inning Tuesday night. ...

Young leaves in 4th after crash into wall

Arizona center fielder Chris Young has left the Diamondbacks' game against Pittsburgh after crashing hard into the wall. Young was injured in the fourth inning Tuesday night while tracking down a fly ball by Pittsburgh's Pedro Alvarez in left-center. Young made the catch, but hit the wall with his right shoulder and his arm in front of his body. He went down on the warning...

Diamondbacks place OF Young on DL

The Arizona Diamondbacks placed outfielder Chris Young on the 15-day disabled list with a shoulder injury. Young underwent an MRI exam that revealed a slight ligament tear and deep bruise in his right shoulder, the result of crashing into the wall to make a catch in Tuesday's game. Young is off to a superb start this season, batting .410 with five home runs and 13 RBIs. The...

With Young out, D-backs plan to regroup

PHOENIX -Now that Chris Young has been placed on the disabled list, Plan B has become Plan A. Not that the Diamondbacks are sweating it. They will miss Young, whose numbers litter the NL leader board and whose defense is so voracious that it occasionally takes a bite out of him, too. But they have done without before. After shortstop Stephen Drew went down last July 20, the D...

Without stars, D-backs' offense has gone dark

PHOENIX -- The Diamondbacks are still trying to work through the loss of top offensive threats Chris Young and Justin Upton. It is not easy in itself, and Atlantas young pitching is not helping. Right-hander Brandon Beachy was as unhittable in a 9-1 victory Friday as left-hander Mike Minor was in a 10-2 victory the night before, and the D-backs are now in the midst of their longest...

DL possible for Upton due to thumb injury

PHOENIX Still bothered by a sore left thumb, Justin Upton was expected to get an MRI on Tuesday afternoon, and manager Kirk Gibson did not dismiss the possibility that Upton could be placed on the disabled list to allow the injury to completley heal. "At some point you have to think long-term. If he keeps beating on it, it's not going to get better. Then it's something...

Pollock and infielder Cody Ransom. Young, an NL All-Star in 2010, injured his right shoulder crashing into the padded wall in center for a catch in the fourth inning Tuesday. An MRI confirmed he...

Upton dead serious about Silly Putty treatment

PHOENIX -- Silly Putty therapy worked for family friend David Wright, so Justin Upton is giving it a try to facilitate his return from a bruised left thumb. Wright, the third baseman for the New York Mets, rolled a blob of the pink stuff between his fingers during pregame work Saturday to gain flexibility in his fractured right pinkie, and something worked -- he played that night...

Arizona Outfield Is Ailing

Many questioned the Arizona Diamondbacks' acquisition of Jason Kubel this winter, but the added outfield depth is key now that star outfielders Chris Young and Justin Upton are both missing time due to injury. Top prospect A.J. Pollock is also being counted on to help with the outfield situation.

Early season busts – Trade or hold? Fantasy baseball 2012

Justin Upton – OF – Arizona Diamondbacks 2012 Stats – 10 games – .212/0/0, 1 SB, SLG % .273., BABIP – .304 Upton went as high as the first round, or usually no later than the third round in most fantasy drafts for fantasy baseball 2012.  So far, he isn’t even a top 40 outfielder as he has yet to club a HR or drive in an RBI.  It is a rather...

Pittsburgh Pirate Parrot Costume Update

The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-4 in front of yours truly and 19,197 other people on Tuesday night at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona. The win improved the Pirates to 4-7 and moved their magic number to 77 games in pursuit of achieving my lofty preseason expectations of the Bucs- a non losing season after 19 consecutive...
