The Los Angeles Dodgers have been on some kind of roll over the past 20 games with a record of 16-4. The team is looking to get healthy and make a run into the postseason. Manager Don Mattingly answered questions about injuries and the team today before Photo Day at Dodgers Stadium. “Just a little over a week ago we were talking about having four outfielders and now we only have one,” said Mattingly when asked about Carl Crawford and Yasiel Puig. With Matt Kemp on the disabled list, both Crawford (lower back) and Puig (hip) have been day-to-day with nagging injuries. Crawford had an MRI this morning to see what is going on with his lower left back. He told us in the media that it is improving but that it hurts to bend down because of stiffness. Mattingly said there was “nothing significant” in the results of that MRI meaning Crawford’s situation hasn’t changed and could be available to pinch hit depending on the situation. Puig is still dealing with the left hip that he injured in Colorado on the team’s most recent road trip. It has bothered him enough that he has left the game early in each of the last two nights. He will also have limited availability coming off the bench this weekend. Mattingly explained that he doesn’t want to start either Crawford or Puig because if something were to happen, like the last two nights with Puig, it leaves the bench short of guys. Ted Lilly said he is feeling great after a rehab stint and a simulated game this week. There is no timetable per Mattingly and Lilly himself on the next step for his return to the team. Quite honestly there really isn’t a spot for him depending on the health of Stephen Fife. Fife, dealing with right shoulder bursitis, has been throwing off flat ground and is on track at the moment. Mattingly didn’t think Fife would be on the DL for an extended period of time. There is nothing new on Kemp’s injury but he is expected back not long after the All-Star break. It has been the most trying year of his career and the Dodgers are looking for him to get back on track in the second half.Tweet
