The Los Angeles Dodgers’ season just keeps getting worse, and on Saturday the team was dealt another blow. Starting pitcher Josh Beckett will miss the rest of the 2013 season as he will undergo surgery to relieve pressure on the nerves in his neck and shoulder area. Beckett hadn’t pitched since May 13 and was attempting to work his way back to the majors when he suffered a setback during a throwing session on Friday. The 33-year-old felt tingling in his fingers from a nerve issue that has been bothering him for months. Moving to undergo surgery is certainly the right step, especially since the Dodgers are nowhere near competing this season. The veteran was in his 13th year this season but had been awful from the get-go. He posted a record of 0-5, with a 5.19 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in 43.1 innings over eight starts. The Dodgers had won just one of his starts this season. Since coming over from the Boston Red Sox last year, Beckett is just 2-8 and has never looked comfortable on the mound. His 2013 season was virtually a wasted one, and it cost the Dodgers $15.75 million. He will likely be ready for spring training in 2014, which is good because he’s under contract for another $15.75 million next year before becoming a free agent after the season. At this point it’s fair to say that Adrian Gonzalez is the only part of last summer’s blockbuster trade for the Red Sox has turned out well for the Dodgers. And even Gonzalez is vastly overpaid, since $21 million is far too much money for a 31-year-old hitting .296 with 10 home runs.

  • This bum has been out for the season for a long time, he sucks now...his career has been over for awhile and someone needs to tell him so.
