Milwaukee Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy announced Wednesday on Twitter that he's been selected and will play for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic in March. "Just found out I will be joining my teammate Ryan Braun in representing my country in the WBC! Very honored and humbled to represent the USA," Lucroy tweeted. Along with Braun, Lucroy, joins New York Mets third baseman David Wright and Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer as players who have announced their intentions to play for Team USA. Despite playing in only 96 games due to a hand injury, Lucroy, 26, hit .320 with 12 home runs and 58 RBI for the Brewers in 2012. All countries' rosters are expected to be announced soon, with pool play beginning on March 2. Team USA is in Pool D with games to be held from March 7-10 at Chase Field in Phoenix. For Braun and Lucroy, that means a short trip from Milwaukee's spring training facility in Maryvale, Ariz. Of course, this means the Brewers will spend part of spring training without two key players, and there likely will be more. Right-handers Yovani Gallardo and Marco Estrada are likely to play for Mexico; center fielder Carlos Gomez and third baseman Aramis Ramirez are candidates for the Dominican Republic; and relievers John Axford and Jim Henderson and third baseman Taylor Green could play for Canada. Right fielder Norichika Aoki has already said he will not play for Japan, instead focusing on his upcoming season with the Brewers. With Mauer also in the fold, Lucroy will likely be the second catcher on the roster, although Mauer could also play at first base. In the 2009 World Baseball Classic, Team USA's catchers were Brian McCann and Chris Iannetta. Follow Andrew Gruman on Twitter.
