Lugo-omg
By Matthew Sisto, October 12, 2007 Julio Lugo has been fined by the Major League Commissioner's Office for his explosion in last week's ALDS matchup versus Anaheim after being caught stealing. Lugo was thrown out at second base in the second inning of Game 1, trying to put pressure on Angels' ace John Lackey. Clearly unhappy with the umpire's call, Lugo jumped to his feet and shouted "O-M-F-G!," teen-slang for "Oh My [obscenity] God!" He continued his tirade, shouting at the umpire while pacing up and down the second-base line, texting his "B.F.F. David," who Lugo insists is "just a friend." The whole ordeal lasted about six minutes after he was thrown out of the game, and ended with Lugo storming to the clubhouse, making his feelings clear as he shouted "I hate you! I hate you!" to umpiring crew-chief, Gary Darling. Bud Selig, MLB Commissioner, issued the following statement: "The game of baseball holds a special place in America's history. It is a game of honor, pride, individual effort, and teamwork. All of our players wear these attributes proudly. Baseball is a game for men. It is a game for straight men - Straight men with fierce goatees who pat butts proudly a their comrades swiftly cross the plate. We simply cannot let the image of our beloved sport be tarnished by an individual's inability to control his girly-self on the field." The amount of Lugo's fine has not been revealed.
