Magglio Ordonez has hit 294 homers in the major leagues and maintained a batting average of .309 since his first big-league game in 1997.
Now that the 38-year-old is a free agent, he doesn’t want to sign a minor-league deal that includes an invitation to spring training, CBSSports.com reports.
“A few teams have been interested, including Oakland, but there’s been nothing concrete,” Ordonez said, CBS reports. “The market has been tough for me, but I’m working towards continuing my career.”
Ordonez appeared in 92 games for the Detroit Tigers last year, finishing with a .255 batting average with five homers and 32 RBIs. But in the American League Championship Series, he refractured the ankle that he had broken in 2010. That surely isn’t helping the six-time All-Star find any suitors.

Brandon Inge to Play 2nd Base; Shenanigans Will Ensue
In a span of just over four weeks -- starting with Victor Martinez's season-ending injury -- the Tigers' offseason news has gone from non-existent to complete shenanigans. The BP First Take: Friday, February 17 by Daniel Rathman
Remember when we all thought the Tigers were crazy for moving Miguel Cabrera back to third base? Well, here is a possibly even crazier idea: Brandon Inge, second base.
To be sure, the Tigers caught themselves in a bit of a bind with Inge as soon as they signed Prince Fielder to a nine-year, $214 million deal. Inge is owed $5.5 million for the 2012 season—pricey for a bench...

Tony LaRussa Making Comeback With Detroit Tigers?
Tony LaRussa may have retired as manager of the 2011 World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals, but nobody truly expected him to stay away from the game of baseball entirely.
Not yet, at least.
LaRussa has been invited by good friend Jim Leyland, manager of the Detroit Tigers, to attend Spring Training in a non-uniform, non-official capacity.
That means that anyone hoping LaRussa...
The 2012 Detroit Tigers’ greatest unknown
The 2012 version of the Detroit Tigers comes to the table with plenty of certainties. But as absolute as their extra-base power and front-line starting pitching are, a few x-factors remain that can put this team over the top or hold them back from their ultimate goal.
Make no mistake, barring a rash of injuries; the Tigers are going to the playoffs. The AL Central is one of the weaker...
