The Atlanta Braves completed a weekend sweep of the Arizona D-backs with a 6-2 win on Sunday afternoon. The Braves won by way of the long ball on Sunday, as all 6 of their runs came off 3 home runs. The D-backs claimed the lead quick off of Braves pitcher, Paul Maholm.  Paul Goldschmidt grounded into a double play with runners on the corners.  The Braves defense gave up the run in order to turn the double play.  The D-backs jumped out to an early 1-0 lead. Brian McCann got the homeruns started for the Braves in the 2nd inning.  His solo shot that bounced off the top and over the fence, tied the game up at 1. In the very next inning, it was a great play by Jason Heyward that led to the next 3 Braves runs.  Andrelton Simmons was on 2nd, and Heyward on 1st, when Justin Upton sent a grounder towards the middle infielders.  It seemed like a sure double play until a great slide from Heyward caused the shortstop to hesitate just enough for Upton to beat the throw at 1st.  The great slide by Heyward gave the Braves an extra out and allowed Freddie Freeman to bat in the inning. With runners on the corners, Freeman sent his 2nd homerun in as many days over the fence in center.  The 3-run blast increased the Braves lead to 4-1. In the 5th inning, Dan Uggla got in on the homerun parade.  With Brian McCann on base, Uggla sent his 14th homerun of the season over the left center field fence. Uggla’s 2- run homer gave the Braves a commanding 6-1 lead. In the 6th inning, the Diamondbacks would put another run on the board.  This run came the exact same way as their first run.  Paul Goldschmidt grounded into a double play that allowed A.J. Pollock to score from 3rd. That would be all the games scoring as the Braves claimed a 6-2 victory. Paul Maholm was sharp for the Braves on the mound.  He pitched 6.2 innings and only gave up 2 ER.  His win loss record improved to 9-6 with Sunday’s win. The Braves will enjoy an off day tomorrow, before welcoming the Marlins to town for a 3 game set. The post Maholm and Homers Help Braves Sweep Diamondbacks appeared first on Atlanta Bullpen.
