Found June 30, 2013 on Atlanta Bullpen:
The Atlanta Braves completed a weekend sweep of the Arizona D-backs with a 6-2 win on Sunday afternoon. The Braves won by way of the long ball on Sunday, as all 6 of their runs came off 3 home runs. The D-backs claimed the lead quick off of Braves pitcher, Paul Maholm.  Paul Goldschmidt grounded into a double play with runners on the corners.  The Braves defense gave up the run in order to turn the double play.  The D-backs jumped out to an early 1-0 lead. Brian McCann got the homeruns started for the Braves in the 2nd inning.  His solo shot that bounced off the top and over the fence, tied the game up at 1. In the very next inning, it was a great play by Jason Heyward that led to the next 3 Braves runs.  Andrelton Simmons was on 2nd, and Heyward on 1st, when Justin Upton sent a grounder towards the middle infielders.  It seemed like a sure double play until a great slide from Heyward caused the shortstop to hesitate just enough for Upton to beat the throw at 1st.  The great slide b...

Atlanta Braves News: Optimism High Halfway Through Season

The Atlanta Braves have continued to play excellent baseball more often than not in the 2013 season, something that was obvious in the team’s three-game sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks to stretch their lead in the NL East to 6 1/2 games, which is currently the largest division lead in all of baseball. Indeed, this latest series against the D-Backs was as good as it gets, as it...

Why is Justin Upton Struggling?

The difference between a decent hitter and a great hitter is consistency. It's a pretty simple concept that has held true through history, but that has not stopped us all from proclaiming a decent hitter as great during their streaks and pitiful during their slumps. The 2013 version of that player is Justin Upton. Upton started the season as the next big thing, hitting 12 home...

Braves are rolling, but Gonzalez wants more

Manager Fredi Gonzalez is delighted with the Atlanta Braves' 6 1/2-game lead in the NL East. Now Gonzalez wants to see his team put together more winning streaks and farther distance itself from the second-place Washington Nationals. With the Braves beginning a three-game home series on Tuesday against the woeful Miami Marlins, Gonzalez is hoping for vast improvement in Atlanta...

It was a brilliant weekend for the offense and for young Julio Teheran. However...

The jerseys were shown on the stadium's video board during a moment of silence...

Diamondbacks-Mets Preview

Wade Miley is the last starter to win a game for the Arizona Diamondbacks, but that came nearly four weeks ago. The offense isn't providing much help. Miley may need to overcome the Diamondbacks' sluggish bats if he's going to help them win for just the second time in 10 tries on the road Monday night against the New York Mets. Miley (4-7, 4.55 ERA) allowed three runs...

Goldschmidt, Kipnis deserving of high praise

July 1, 2013 Yankees first baseman Lyle Overbay was a mentor to Paul Goldschmidt during their time together in Arizona, and Overbay still marvels at the advanced approach that Goldschmidt displayed even as a rookie in 2011. Specifically, Overbay recalls a sequence from Aug. 25, 2011, when Goldschmidt hit a two-run homer off Nationals reliever Tyler Clippard in the eighth inning...
