Chris Capuano was activated from the disabled list, with Alex Castellanos heading to AAA. The Dodgers activated Chris Capuano from the disabled list in between games on Wednesday’s doubleheader with the Yankees, as the left-hander will start Game 2. To make room, the Dodgers optioned Alex Castellanos to Triple-A Albuquerque. Some stability at the back of the rotation would be nice, though it’s not promising that Cap has always been a worse pitcher in the second half of the season. —– Elian Herrera was recalled from AAA, with Chris Withrow being sent the other way to Albuquerque. Elian Herrera’s time at Triple-A Albuquerque appears to be over for the time being, as he surprisingly showed up at Petco park Thursday. Meanwhile, the hard throwing reliever Chris Withrow got optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque. The Dodgers are back to 12 pitchers on roster. Herrera hit .300 with five home runs, 28 RBI, 12 stolen bases, and posted an impressive .381 on base percentage for the Isotopes. After going up and down all last year, Herrera has only played one game for the Dodgers in 2013. Herrera’s sole big league appearance was against the Arizona Diamondbacks on May 8th; and he went one-for-three, batted eighth, and played left field. Withrow, the Dodgers first round pick in 2007, made three appearances for Don Mattingly and ended up with an ERA of 5.40. At the minor league level, Withrow has been excellent at 4-0 with an ERA of 1.93, and averaged 11.6 strikeouts per nine innings. This will certainly not be the last we see of Withrow this season, and Herrera becomes yet another small utility guy the Dodgers have filled their bench with throughout the Ned Colletti era. —– After designating him for assignment, the Dodgers officially released Ramon Hernandez. —– 2013 draft picks Brandon Dixon (3), J.D. Underwood (5), Brandon Trinkwon (7), Kyle Farmer (8), Spencer Navin (11), Michael Johnson (14), James McDonald (18), Blake Hennessey (19), James Baune (21), Jake Fisher (22), Kyle Hooper (25), and Dillon Moyer (38) have all signed. Nick Keener (10), Mike Ahmed (20), Crayton Bare (28), and Rob Rogers (32) have also signed with the club. ===== Greg Zakwin is the founder of the site Plaschke Thy Sweater Is Argyle.
