It was pretty clear that Manny Delcarmen did not have a future as a key role player in the Red Sox bullpen. As a result, the Sox traded Delcarmen and cash to the Rockies for pitching prospect Chris Balcom-Miller before Monday’s waiver trade deadline. Balcom-Miller is a 21-year-old right-hander who went 6-7 with a 3.31 ERA in 19 starts in Single A this season. He’s also the second player with a lengthy last name acquired by the team this season. But needless to say, it wasn’t exactly a sell high situation for the Sox’ front office… Delcarmen has been one of numerous ineffective Boston relievers, and now becomes the second right-handed relief pitcher to be shipped out of town in 2010. Ramon Ramirez was dealt to the Giants at the July 31st trade deadline for minor league pitcher Daniel Turpen.
