Mariano Rivera did not get the save in last night’s All-Star Game because manager Jim Leyland didn’t want to chance him not getting into the game in the ninth without a lead. But that didn’t mean much as the New York Yankees great and future Hall of Fame closer entered the game the way he always does. CitiField, the home of the city-rival Mets, blared Metallica’s Enter Sandman as Rivera was called upon one last time in an All-Star Game. It is the song that plays at Yankee Stadium each and every time Mo takes the mound, telling teams, it’s time to go to bed. Try not to get goose bumps: Back in 2008, when the All-Star Game was played at the old Yankee Stadium, viewers at home were upset that Fox didn’t stay with the broadcast when Rivera was called upon, but this time was probably more fitting. It was great to see all the players leave the dugout to applaud their peer before he began his warm-up pitches. Considering Rivera has been in bigger pressure situations than that, the emotion didn’t throw him off, as he retired the side in order.
