The Mariners announced via a team press release that they have designated Jack Cust for assignment to open up a roster spot for Erik Bedard who is pitching tonight.
Cust hit .213 in 270 plate appearances all as the team's designated hitter.
Cust who signed a one-year $2.5 million deal in December was supposed to provide power to a team lacking offense. Their plan did not work out as Cust totaled only 3 home runs and only 48 hits while striking out 87 times.
