Munenori Kawasaki, an eight-time All-Star infielder in Japan's Pacific League, officially signed with the Mariners on Wednesday as a Minor League free agent with an invitation to the club's Major League camp in Spring Training.

Mariners fans really, really want the team to sign star free-agent first baseman Prince Fielder. The Seattle Mariners have signed right-handed reliever Aaron Heilman to a minor league contract with an invite to the Mariners' major league spring training camp. The Mariners announced the contract on Tuesday. It will be his second stint with the Mariners, although Heilman's first season in Seattle never got started as he was traded to the Chicago Cubs before the 2009 season began.
As far as I know, this news doesn’t affect the Mariners chances of signing Prince Fielder, so I apologize in advance for the lack of update on that front.
