MLB Injury News:
The Seattle Mariners reached an agreement on what amounts to
a seven-year, $175 million contract extension with right-hander Felix Hernandez
last week. However, the deal was delayed when an elbow issue was discovered during an MRI taken on Friday. While the Mariners are seeking protective language
in the agreement, a deal is “still on track” and may come in the next day or
two, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

The Mariners and Hernandez agreed on a contract that would
give the right-hander the richest agreement ever for a pitcher, topping C.C.
Sabathia’s deal with the New York Yankees. Hernandez would also be making a
higher average annual salary than the deal Zack Greinke signed with the Los Angeles
Dodgers this offseason.
There is still no word on what exactly the elbow issue is,
but it doesn’t appear that it will stop the deal from being finalized.
Rosenthal didn’t mention a reduction in the length or total value of the
contract, so it would appear that the language being included could allow the
Mariners to void the agreement or take on a reduced amount if Hernandez becomes
injured as a result of his current elbow issue.

After hemming and hawing for a few days, the Seattle Mariners and ace right-hander Felix Hernandez have reportedly finalized the seven-year, $175 million contract the two sides essentially agreed to last week. Over the weekend it was reported that the deal was being held up because of concerns about the soundness of Hernandez’s pitching elbow.

Mariners, Hernandez, at impasse
Just a couple days ago it was reported that Mariner’s ace Felix Hernandez had reached a new $175 million contract with Seattle, that would replace his old deal and lock him up for seven more years.
Such a contract would have kept Hernandez a Mariner at 33 years old, and could have arguably ensured he remained a Mariner for life.
While the deal seemed...
Felix Hernandez has officially agreed to a record contract extension with the Mariners that will keep him in Seattle through (at least) the end of the 2019 season. We take a look at the face of the M's franchise.
We alerted you to the framework of the $175 million deal that Felix Hernandez and the Seattle Mariners had agreed on a few days ago. The deal wasn’t officially official though because of a pending physical that King Felix had to take. Reportedly, that physical has revealed elbow issues that have put a stop [...]
It appeared as if Felix Hernandez was set to become the highest paid pitcher in all of baseball just a few days ago, but that has been put on hold due to an “elbow issue.” The Seattle Mariners had reportedly agreed to a seven-year, $175 million contract extension with King Felix on Thursday, giving him a huge bump in pay from the 5-year, $78 million extension the two sides agreed...

The St. Louis Cardinals enter spring training this week with another star player entering the final year of his contract just two years after the Albert Pujols contract circus. But the Cardinals suddenly have leverage in these negotiations they never got with Pujols.

Finalizing his record extension with the Mariners hit a bit of a snag, but Seattle and Felix Hernandez have made their new pact official, guaranteeing King Felix $175 million over the next seven seasons in the Pacific Northwest. It seems risky to lock up so much money to a starting pitcher, but it’s clear that Mariners GM Jack Zduriencik wants to make his ace the centerpiece of...
Though many have said it couldn’t be done, managing editor Dave Cameron — in this edition of FanGraphs Audio — analyzes baseball, entirely. Of note: reviewing some first principles from Cameron’s 10-best and -worst offseason transaction posts; everything regarding the Felix Hernandez extension; and the Francisco Liriano deal with Pittsburgh, if it’s a bargain...
In Seattle, all eyes are (justfiably) always on Felix Hernandez. He's one of the best pitchers in baseball, he's close to agreeing to a huge contract extension with the team, and he's the face of the franchise. There's also a lot of attention being placed on new acquisition Michael Morse, former top prospects Justin Smoak, Dustin Ackley, and Jesus Montero, and on...
