Right handed pitcher Felix Hernandez is under the Mariners control through 2014, but the team is already pushing to sign him to a contract extension that would make him a “Mariner for life” according to Jon Heyman of CBSSPorts. People is always talking about when the Mariners will finally trade him to a competing team, although nobody in the Mariners organization has given any indications that they would like to trade him. I even remember ESPNDeportes' Fernando Alvarez an experienced baseball journalist saying that he was going to be wearing a different uniform by the end of 2012 (I must say though, that this is the same guy who claimed that Miguel Cabrera was the ONLY logical choice to win the AL MVP). The truth is that Hernandez is comfortable where he is and the Mariners have no intentions to let him go. As Efrain Ruiz (Venezuelan baseball journalist) once said “Felix's challenge in baseball is to win with his organization.” Hernandez, 26, went 13-9 with a 3.06 ERA, 2.84 FIP, 8.7 K/9, 2.2 BB/9, 0.5 HR/9 and a perfect game in 232.0 innings pitched for the Mariners in 2012.
