Has left-hander Mark Buehrle become the new ace of the Blue Jays starting rotation? If so it has likely been by default as the 12-year veteran ran his record to 7-7 with a 5-0 victory over the A’s at the Coliseum on Tuesday night. Buehrle tossed seven shutout innings on the heels of his two-hit shutout of the Astros and ran his scoreless innings streak to 20. His personal high is 25.2 innings without a run. “The first three innings weren’t too many quiet outs” Buehrle admitted downplaying his own performance. “They were putting the ball in play and like I’ve said before it’s the whole luck thing. “If this was our park or some other parks I might have been out of there in the third because there were balls that were home runs in different (parks). I made some pitches made some outs made mistakes. If I go out next start and have the same stuff I probably won’t be as fortunate.” If it sounds like Buehrle was being excessively hard on himself he also realizes in a positive light tha...

Underachieving Toronto Blue Jays Stand Pat At The Trade Deadline

The MLB trade deadline has come and gone with the struggling, basement dwelling Toronto Blue Jays standing pat failing to partake in a move or ship out any of their underachievers. Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos spoke about the uneventful deadline shortly after it had expired.  “There’s no question we’re going to have to make changes and improve the roster in...

Blue Jays activate reliever Santos, McGowan on DL

The Toronto Blue Jays have activated right-handed reliever Sergio Santos from the 60-day disabled list. Right-handed starter Brandon Morrow has been placed on the 60-day disabled list to make room on the 40-man roster. Morrow's season is effectively over after he was diagnosed with a nerve injury in his right forearm last week. The Jays also announced Thursday that right-hander...

Melky Cabrera hasn't heard from MLB

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Melky Cabrera said Wednesday he hasn't been told by Major League Baseball whether he will face a suspension for his ties to the Florida clinic Biogenesis accused of distributing performance-enhancing drugs. Cabrera, who wasn't in the starting lineup for Wednesday afternoon's game at Oakland, said he is following media reports that he will...

Gibbons: Cabrera 'served his time'

Toronto Blue Jays manager John Gibbons believes outfielder Melky Cabrera served his suspension and won't be penalized by Major League Baseball for his ties to a Florida clinic accused of distributing performance-enhancing drugs. Gibbons said Monday in Oakland he isn't making contingency plans in the case that Cabrera receives another suspension. ''We don't think...

Blue Jays believe Melky Cabrera already served his time, won't be suspended

Although his name is tied to the Biogenesis scandal, the Toronto Blue Jays do not feel like Melky Cabrera will be suspended.  The outfielder served a 50-game suspension while with the San Francisco Giants last year after testing positive for a banned substance.  The Blue Jays think any punishment now would be inappropriate since Cabrera already served a drug suspension that could...

Blue Jays 5, Athletics 2(10)

Jose Bautista hit a go-ahead double in the top of the 10th inning, and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Oakland Athletics 5-2 on Wednesday for a series win. Bautista lined a double to right against Jesse Chavez (2-3). Rookie catcher Stephen Vogt's second costly passed ball of the game allowed Jose Reyes to advance after a leadoff infield single, and Reyes scored on Bautista'...

Blue Jays survive bad leather to beat A’s

Over the course of an unusual 5-2 Wedneday matinee win at the Coliseum the Jays played the first six innings as if they had never before seen the sun. The no-decision for starter R.A. Dickey was partially the result of the high sky and four fielding errors leaving with the game tied at twos. But in halting stumbling fashion the Jays captured the rubber game of the series vs. the...

Blue Jays-Angels Preview

The Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Angels have been two of the most disappointing teams in baseball, though the Blue Jays have been playing better of late. That certainly hasn't been the case when they've sent Josh Johnson to the mound. Johnson looks to put his disastrous July behind him and lead the Blue Jays to their sixth win in eight games Thursday night when they...

John Farrell Appreciates Jerry Meals’ Accountability, But Still Thinks Expanded Video Replay Is Way to Go

BOSTON – Umpire Jerry Meals would like a mulligan. John Farrell would like a chance to give it to him. Farrell said Tuesday that he appreciates Meals’ accountability, although it’s clear that the Red Sox manager...

Blue Jays rumors: Emilio Bonifacio most likely to be traded

The Toronto Blue Jays were significant buyers this winter, acquiring names such as Jose Reyes, Josh Johnson, Mark Buehrle and R.A. Dickey in hopes of competing for a World Series crown. However, Toronto has struggled this season, leading many to believe they could become sellers just a little over six months later. If the Blue Jays do wind up making a deal, Ken Rosenthal of FOX...
