One month in to his four month sentence, 3-time All Star Mark Grace (and his family) are adjusting to him serving time in “Tent City”, the affectionate moniker of his nightly bunk that satisfies his jail term as a repeat offender for Driving Under the Influence of alcohol. While most athletes are prone to make excuses or feel they were dealt a bad deal, Grace is surprisingly forthright.  According to the Chicago Tribune reporter Paul Sullivan, Grace realizes his mistake and simply wants to pay his debt. Grace reflected: The cop didn’t screw me. The judge didn’t screw me. The prosecutor didn’t screw me. It’s a lesson learned, and especially out here. These laws out here, they don’t mess around. I knew that. You can sit here and make all the excuses you want. But at the end of the day, it’s my fault. I did it, and I’m going to pay my debt to the state of Arizona and be done with it. And it will never happen again. I can promise you it will never happen again, because if it happens again I’m going to prison for like two years, and my children deserve better than that. My friends deserve better than that. Grace is part of a work-release program that requires he check in by 6 pm every night, but releases him at 6 am every morning.  During release, he is a contributor toward the Diamondbacks minor league training camp.  The Diamondbacks have been supportive of his arrangement and he will serve as their Scottsdale, AZ, Summer League hitting instructor full time upon his completion of his sentence. As for his accommodations now, they are nothing to write home about.  The article continues, noting the nightly Arizona desert low temperatures near 40 degrees.  And as you would expect, the lodging has no TV or internet.  The outfit is set up for non-violent offenders to serve short terms and potentially get a new perspective on life.  It sounds like from the quote above, it’s having that effect on Grace. - Dave (@lhd_on_sports) Follow us on Twitter @rbts_baseball     The post Mark Grace adjusting to DUI sentence appeared first on Reading Between The Seams.
