MASN’s Roch Kubatko is reporting that the Orioles declined Mark Hendrickson‘s option, instead paying the $200k buyout. Hendrickson had an ugly 5.26 ERA, but his peripherals suggest that he is better than that. He had a 6.57 K/9, 2.39 BB/9, and a reasonable 42.9 % GB rate. He also had a FIP of 4.09, which is supported by an xFIP of 4.13. Many of Hendrickson’s problems stemmed from an inflated BABIP, which reached .359, easily the highest of his career. FanGraphs splits showed that he was still pretty good against lefties this year. 2010 was also the only year where Hendrickson failed to reach 100 or more innings pitched since 2002, but it’s also the only year since then where he wasn’t called upon to start at least 11 games. Because he lives in York and enjoys playing close to home, it wouldn’t be unexpected for Hendrickson to resign with the Orioles at a lower salary.
