The New York Yankees rough spring continues. First baseman Mark Teixieira will miss eight to ten weeks after straining his wrist this week, causing him to drop out of the World Baseball Classic and return to New York for evaluation. The MASH unit for the Yankees is piling up at this point, with Teixeira and Curtis Granderson joining Alex Rodriguez as offensive starters that will start the season on the disabled list. The only starters from the Yankees Opening Day lineup in 2012 that will be there in 2013 are Robinson Cano, Derek Jeter, and Brett Gardner. Considering that Jeter's status for Opening Day is still a bit of a question mark and that Gardner missed all of last year, that's some hellacious attrition for one year. Hell, only three Yankees starters from their first playoff game last October will start on Opening Day: Cano, Jeter (possibly), and Ichiro Suzuki. The Yankees are going to find it difficult to fill the hole at first base created by Teixeira's injury, and that could result in something hellacious like a platoon of Dan Johnson and Eduardo Nunez at first for a month. Things are not well in the Bronx this March, and the Yankee dynasty as we know it may be beginning to crumble. [follow]
