The Los Angeles Angels have traded slugger Mark Trumbo to the Arizona Diamondbacks as part of a 3 team deal. In return the Angels will receive pitchers Tyler Skaggs from the Arizona Diamondbacks and Hector Santiago from the Chicago White Sox. Adam Eaton will be dealt to Chicago. The Diamondbacks will also acquire two prospects. Trumbo will take over in left field and provide protection for Paul Goldschmidt. We all know Trumbo can hit some TrumBombs but he is leaving a lineup that featured Albert Pujols and Josh Hamilton. I don't see any reason to think Trumbo won't have just as productive a fantasy season in the National League as he has done in the past in the American League. David Freese should slide up in the batting order to take Trumbo's spot and J.B. Shuck should continue to see regular playing time in left field. How they will utilize the DH spot is yet to be seen. The Angels rotation now looks like Jered Weaver, C.J. Wilson, Hector Santiago, Tyler Skaggs and Garrett Richards. That's not terrible. It's an upgrade from Jerome Williams and Joe Blanton, that's for sure! Santiago owned a 3.49 ERA over 149 inning last season, making 39 appearances and 23 stars. He only won 4 games, but the Angels offense should provide better support than the White Sox did last season. Skaggs is a prospect and has made just 13 starts over 2 seasons for the Diamondbacks. He owns a 5.56 ERA and has been known to give up the long ball. He has 544 strikeouts in 498.2 minor league innings, so you can see the potential is there. Santiago is a deep league option while Skaggs is a stream based on matchup type player. The White Sox will still have Chris Sale, John Danks, Jose Quintana and Andre Rienzo in the rotation. Internally Erik Johnson or Charlie Leesman could take over the final rotation spot. The Diamondbacks wont have to alter their rotation as Skaggs was a spot starter. Adam Eaton was due for a breakout season until injuries limited him to 66 games. Instead, Gerardo Parra and A.J. Pollock got the majority of playing time in the OF. Eaton will join a crowded outfield that features Alejandro De Aza in center with Dayan Viciedo and Avisail Garcia in the corners. With Paul Konerko returning and Adam Dunn still on the team, the DH spot is occupied. Until the OF situation is clear in Chicago, Adam Eaton has little value. However, if he gets to play 3 or 4 days a week, he could provide some runs, doubles, triples and steals. Mark him as a sleeper, again.
