After completing an off-season search, the Marlins are pleased to announce the addition of Matt Sutor to the organization as the Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations for the 2012 season.

Sutor, a senior at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., already has a wealth of experience in broadcasting and journalism. In the summer of 2011, he was the Broadcasting and Media Relations assistant for the New Jersey Jackals in the independent Canadian-American League. Following his time with the Jackals, he served as the radio producer for the Hudson Valley Renegades, the short-season Single-A affiliate for the Tampa Bay Rays. In addition to his work in minor league baseball, Sutor also served as the color commentator for the 2011-2012 MAAC champion Marist women’s basketball team for the college’s official athletic website.

“This is an opportunity I’m extremely excited about,” Sutor said. “The Marlins are a great organization and the Coastal Plain League is one of the best in the nation. I know this will be a great fit and I can’t wait to get started.”

Throughout his four years at Marist, Sutor has been an integral part of the college’s radio station, WMAR, serving as the play-by-play broadcaster for football, soccer, basketball, baseball and softball. He has also been an active member of the student newspaper The Circle and the campus television station MCTV.

A communication major studying sports communication and journalism, he served as a tour guide for the college and also coached a local youth basketball team for two seasons. He will graduate from Marist this spring, before reporting to Morehead City for the season.

“Matt has all the ingredients we look for in a broadcaster,” said Marlins general manager Christopher Marmo. “He has a strong and clear voice, as well as prior play-by-play baseball experience. We’re very happy to bring him along for the summer and know he’ll be a wonderful addition to our front office staff,” added Marmo.

The Morehead City Marlins are a member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 16th season, the Coastal Plain League features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts.
