After a spectacular rookie season, Marlins right-hander Jose Fernandez was named a finalist for National League Rookie of the Year and NL Cy Young honors on Tuesday night. Fernandez went 12-6 with a 2.19 ERA in 28 starts before being shut down with an innings limit in mid-September. He recorded the second-lowest ERA in the majors. During 10 second-half starts, Fernandez went 7-1 with a 1.32 ERA, best in the big leagues. On Monday, the 21-year-old was named NL Outstanding Rookie at the MLBPA Players Choice Awards, as voted on by his peers. While the franchise boasts three Rookie of the Year winners -- Dontrelle Willis (2003), Hanley Ramirez (2006) and Chris Coghlan (2009) -- no Marlins pitcher has ever won the Cy Young. Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig and Cardinals right-hander Shelby Miller are Fernandezs fellow rookie finalists. Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw (16-9, 1.83 ERA, 232 strikeouts) and Cardinals right-hander Adam Wainwright (19-9, 2.94 ERA, 219 SO) are the other Cy Young candidates. The BBWAA awards will be handed out Monday (Rookie of the Year) and Nov. 13 (Cy Young).
