Fox Sports Florida:
Jose Fernandez hardly looked like a rookie in his All-Star debut.
But that's little surprise to Miami Marlins fans.
Fernandez entered Tuesday night's All-Star game to start the sixth inning with the National League trailing the American League 2-0 at New York's Citi Field. The 20-year-old Cuban defector exited after retiring the NL in order, including two strikeouts.
Boston' Dustin Pedroia, Detroit's Miguel Cabrera and Baltimore's Chris Davis were the first three batters due up in the sixth.
In other words, Fernandez prepared to face a scrappy .316 hitter, last year's AL Triple Crown winner and this year's major league home run leader.
Fernandez proceeded to dispose of them 1-2-3 on 13 pitches, including nine strikes.
Throwing to San Francisco catcher Buster Posey, Fernandez struck out Pedroia looking with a four-seam fastball. The Red Sox second baseman took one swing, missing a 2-1 fastball.

Biggest Surprise of 1st Half:
For the Marlins this season, there have been a few surprises. For one, the pitching has been quite strong the entire season, posting a team ERA of 3.86 and WHIP of 1.312. The team ERA places them right in the middle of the pack of the National League, which, considering 3/5 of the projected opening day rotation...
MIAMI -- Jose Fernandez walked into the Citi Field clubhouse on Monday and saw his All-Star locker right next to one belonging to fellow Cuban defector Aroldis Chapman.
Fernandez, 20, had not known the Cincinnati Reds closer, 25, when both were in their native land. Here was an opportunity for the two pitchers to get familiar with each other and exchange defection stories.
Considering the Miami Marlins are currently sitting in last
place in the National League East, the team would appear poised to become sellers
this summer. However, while they may make a few minor moves, the Marlins don’t
anticipate completing any other major trades, according to Joe Frisaro of

The Miami Marlins have optioned left-handed reliever/starter Duane Below to their Triple-A New Orleans minor league club. Posting a 2.39 earned run average for AAA this season, he had been recently recalled to the majors but failed to make an appearance.

NEW YORK (AP) -- The Marlins, Rockies, Orioles, Indians, Royals and Brewers won picks after the first round of next year's draft in Major League Baseball's second annual competitive balance lottery.
The lottery involved the 10 teams with the lowest revenue and 10 in the smallest markets and was six picks after the first round. A club's odds of winning the lottery were...
