Miami Marlins first baseman Casey Kotchman is heading to the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring. The Marlins say Thursday they plan to put Kotchman on the DL on Friday, and make a corresponding roster move then. Kotchman clutched the back of his leg while running out a double-play grounder in Miami's 3-0 loss at the Washington Nationals on Wednesday. Kotchman says he ''heard a pop'' on the play. Manager Mike Redmond says he'll have ''a little bit of a tryout over at first base, trying to figure out who's going to fill in.'' Gregg Dobbs is in the lineup playing first base and batting fourth Thursday against Washington. Redmond mentioned Austin Kearns, Chris Valaika and even catcher Miguel Olivo as possible replacements at first.

We are still the MIAMI Marlins

Take a trip to one of our quaint “Cafeterias”. Order a cortadito and spark up a conversation about the Marlins with whomever may be around, and you will quickly notice one thing. There is an undeniable divide in the South Florida sporting community these days. While most will side with those who are angry, the ones’ who are supportive can be just as ardent in backing the team...

Miami Finally Scores in Loss

Justin Ruggiano’s solo home run in the second inning on Thursday gave the Miami Marlins their first run of the 2013 season but that was all they were able to compile in a 6-1 loss to the Washington Nationals.   The loss completed a three game sweep in the first series of the year.   Once again, Miami received a decent start from their starting pitcher as Wade LeBlanc kept the...

Do Cuban Pitchers Cause Attendance Spikes in Miami?

When the Marlins announced their opening day rotation, there was one shocking last minute addition: 20-year-old Jose Fernandez. One of the top pitching prospects in baseball, there had been no talk about carrying him on the Opening Day roster, and he was one of the Marlins first cuts earlier in spring training. While he’s an intriguing talent, he also hasn’t yet pitched above...

Miami Marlins Shelve Placido Polanco As Cleanup Hitter In Favor Of Greg Dobbs

I am glad I do not have the responsibility of coming up with a lineup here. Mike Redmond, Miami Marlins Manager, has ended his experiment of having former Phillies infielder Placido Polanco bat cleanup behind. The new solution: former Phillies pinch-hitter Greg Dobbs. #Marlins today LF Pierre, 3B Polanco, RF...
