The Cleveland Indians today announced that they have recalled catcherYan Gomes and placed catcher Lou Marson on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation (retroactive to April 25). They also recalled left-handed reliever Scott Barnes from Tripe-A Columbus for the doubleheader.
Gomes returns after being sent down to Columbus earlier in the week. He has appeared in six games with the Indians from April 9-24 and hit .211 (4-for-19) with a triple, two homers and three RBI (.842 OPS). In six games with Columbus he has hit .300 (6-for-20) with four 2B and three RBI.
Barnes is making his 2013 season debut on the roster in Cleveland. In seven relief appearances with Columbus he went 2 -0 with a 4.70 ERA, and in 7.2 innings he allowed seven hits, five walks, and has eight strikeouts. Opponents are hitting .280against him, but he has limited batters to a .182 (2-for-11) average against with runners on and a .250 (2-for-8) mark by left-handed hitters.
