Houston left fielder J.D. Martinez has left Friday night's game against the Indians after spraining his right knee while batting in the fourth inning. Martinez was injured on a check swing. His knee buckled and he fell to the ground in pain. He remained on the ground for a couple of minutes while Astros trainers attended to him. He was then helped to his feet and hobbled with assistance back to the dugout. He was replaced by Brandon Barnes. Martinez hit a two-run homer in the second inning, and the Astros led 3-2 when he left the game. The team said he is listed as day-to-day.

Houston Astros Activate Outfielder Fernando Martinez

MLB News: The Houston Astros activated outfielder Fernando Martinez on Sunday. While he should see regular playing time at the corner outfield positions, he isn’t someone the Astros will be relying on as a starter. Holding a .209 career average throughout his career, he could be sent down as quickly as the temperature changes. Fantasy Ramifications: Absolutely none. Make no mistake...

Houston Astros Place Outfielder J.D. Martinez On Disabled List

MLB News: The Houston Astros placed J.D. Martinez on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right knee. The initial prognosis is several weeks to a month. Fantasy Ramificastions: Martinez is a low-end outfielder who provides little of anything for fantasy baseball teams. If you are an owner of the left fielder it is safe to assume that you can release him and pick up someone to...

Rick Ankiel- Hit or Miss & All or Nothing

Rick Ankiel is off to a very unusual start to the 2013 MLB season with the Houston Astros.  In 31 plate appearances, he's struck out 21 times.  That's worse than most pitchers when they bat...and remember he used to be a pitcher.  However, he has connected 10 times and 6 of those times a base hit was the outcome.  Of those 6 hits, 5 have gone for extra bases- 1 double...

A Season of Change in Houston

Opening Day has come and gone at Minute Maid Park in Houston. The Astros won 8-3 over their new divisional foe, the Texas Rangers. Yes, that’s right: the Astros are now in the American League, and a formerly neutral feeling between these two teams means so much more now. This is the biggest change that has happened to the Astros this season; however, change, in many forms, is...

Anatomy of two really bad starts

Rick Porcello of the Tigers and Philip Humber of the Houston Astros both made starts yesterday for their respective teams. To say that those starts did not go well is like saying that a glacier might move slowly. Between the two of them, they totaled one inning pitched. Combined, they gave up seventeen runs. Now that, folks, is a bad day. Let us start with Rick Porcello. Porcello...

2013 MLB Draft: Could the Astros pass on Mark Appel again?

The 2013 MLB Draft is set to begin June 6th and we're going to try and provide at least one or two things per week between now and then. The Astros had the first pick in the 2012 MLB Draft and they again have the top pick. Last year, Mark Appel was rated by some as the top draft prospect. He's rated by nearly everyone as the top draft prospect this year. A year ago the Astros...

Indians-Astros Preview

The Houston Astros and Cleveland Indians have both gotten off to lackluster starts. So have the starters for Friday night's series opener. Lucas Harrell and former Astro Brett Myers each seek their first win of the season while helping their respective clubs snap lengthy losing streaks. After losing 213 games the past two seasons, Houston (4-11) was hardly expected to be competitive...

Next 10 games will test the A’s

The A’s came out of Wednesday’s series-sweeping over the Astros with their 12th win of the season, good enough for the most in the AL. The A’s didn’t even register their 12th win until May 1 last season. So, it’s pretty evident Oakland is off to hot start, not just compared to last season, but over the last few decades of the club’s history. We figured the A’s would...

Second Thoughts Game #15: Indians 2, Astros 3

The Indians lost to the Houston Astros. That pretty much sums it up. The offense continues to struggle with runners on base and in scoring position. Brett Myers gave up two home runs, but still managed to keep the Tribe within striking distance over five innings. The bullpen was once again outstanding pitching four shutout innings. However, it all came back to the offense and lack...

Series Preview: Indians at Astros 4/19-21

Cleveland Indians (5-9) at Houston Astros (4-11)  Series 6, Games 15, 16 and 17 Minute Maid Park, Houston: 0.883*, Pitchers park   Series Overview The Astros are probably the worst team in the American League, maybe in all of baseball.
