Yesterday afternoon, Andy Martino of the Daily News tweeted the New York Mets are not likely to generate any news on Thanksgiving or in the days that follow in regards to signing or trades, according to a team official:

Heading into Thanksgiving weekend, I'm told Mets still in exploratory stage of offseason & aren't close on anything. Expect quiet weekend. November 23, 2011 1:20 pm via webReplyRetweetFavorite @SurfingTheMets Andy Martino

Martino went on to state the following in a post to the Daily News:

The main storyline of the winter is, of course, the pursuit of Jose Reyes, and the shortstop’s free agency has been quiet since last week’s GM meetings, when news surfaced of an offer made by the Miami Marlins.

The Mets are also seeking a late-inning reliever or two, and have discussed Frank Francisco, Matt Capps and Brad Lidge, among others. One possibility, Joe Nathan, signed with Texas this week.

Finally, the Mets are looking to restock their bench, with Endy Chavez and Rick Ankiel among the possibilities.

Sandy Alderson said upon leaving the GM meetings in Milwaukee last Thursday that he expected his offseason activity to accelerate in advance of the winter meetings, which begin Dec. 5 in Dallas.”

Like most fans, I am very anxious to see what the club has in store to make the 2012 team more successful than the 2011 club.  However, as Martino indicates, nothing will be announced in the coming days; that includes a possible offer or –  for the optimist — the signing of Jose Reyes.  I assume the clubs off-season plans will start to unfold during or days after the general manager meetings; which will begin December 5th in Dallas.
