HARVEY: Should be named NL starter in All-Star Game After tonight’s start for the New York Mets, the next time Matt Harvey steps on the Citi Field mound should be to start the All-Star Game. Support for Harvey to start has gone on for several weeks to the point of it now being a brushfire. San Francisco and National League manager Bruce Bochy all but named Harvey the starter yesterday in a national radio interview. Speaking on MLB Network Radio, Bochy marveled at Harvey’s dominance and acknowledged the location of the game, “should play a part, if all things are equal.’’ After tonight, factoring in four complete days of rest, Harvey’s next starts should be July 8 at San Francisco in an up-close audition in front of Bochy and July 13 at Pittsburgh. The latter date is the Saturday prior to the break so there shouldn’t be any scheduling snags. Terry Collins will undoubtedly speak with Bochy when the Mets are in San Francisco, and already said he would change his rotation if it meant ge...

Mr. and Mrs. Met caught on 'Kiss-Cam' at Citi Field, Matt Harvey gets caught on street cam

Mr. Met didn't waste any time waiting to plant one on the Mrs. when the "Kiss-Cam" zoomed in on the couple sitting in the stands of Citi Field Wednesday night.  The pony-tailed baseball did a little runway strut for the camera after they locked lips(?). Matt Harvey and the Innings Limit: how should teams manage young pitchers?

Matt Harvey is having a fantastic second season for the New York Mets. He has pitched so well, and gone deep into so many games, that he is on course to throw well over 240 innings this year. As a result, they have already started talking about how they're going to make sure the 24-year-old doesn't get overworked. Although they're not committing to a 'hard...

D-backs look to snap skid against Harvey, Mets

The Mets hope Tuesday marked a new era at Citi Field. They'll look to translate the momentum gained from a seven-run seventh inning into a third win in three nights over the slumping Diamondbacks on Wednesday night. The Mets (35-45) had been held to five runs or fewer in 30 straight home games when they came up to bat following the seventh-inning stretch Tuesday. During that...

Matt Harvey naked in a white bath robe launches dirty memes

New York Mets pitcher Matt Harvey was photographed for ESPN the Magazine’s Body Issue, which is due out next week. The second-year pitcher has dominated this season, going 7-2 with a 2.27 ERA in 123 innings. His hot start was enough to make him a person of interest for ESPN’s shoot, and the magazine sent [...]

The X Files: Harvey Is Otherworldly

Matt Harvey has the lowest ERA (2.25) among pitchers since 1921, whose first 27 major league appearances were all starts. Mike Mussina is second on that list (2.56 ERA). Harvey also has the best WHIP (0.95) of any pitcher since 1921 through his first 27 career starts. Only four other pitchers had a WHIP under 1.00 in their first 27 starts: Dick Hughes (0.96), Vida Blue (0.97...

Mets Would Be Foolish To Deal Jeremy Hefner

Matt Harvey isn’t the only New York Mets pitcher not receiving any support from his hitters. The true measure of how well Jeremy Hefner has pitched this year isn’t found in his 2-6 record, but 3.72 ERA. Hefner has arguably been the Mets’ second most effective starter behind Harvey, which should mute any trade discussions. HEFNER: Having understated season. (AP) Hefner, tonight’s...

Resilient Mets Show Something; Josh Satin And Andrew Brown Star

No, Matt Harvey doesn’t get a partial credit for a win last night, but even so it was fun to watch the New York Mets turn aggravation to something to shout about. They left 20 runners on base for the second time this season, but nonetheless came from behind twice to beat Arizona, 5-4 in 13 innings, before another sparse crowd at Citi Field. BROWN: Coming through. (AP) `If you...

Diamondbacks 5, Mets 3

Randall Delgado outpitched Matt Harvey for his first major league win in more than a year, and the Arizona Diamondbacks snapped a five-game skid with a 5-3 victory over the New York Mets after a long rain delay Wednesday night. Cody Ross hit a three-run homer off Harvey to put Arizona ahead, and Delgado struck out a career-high nine in seven innings to give the NL West leaders their...

Lefthander Steven Matz Is Finally Healthy And Dominating In Savannah

Contributed by Mike Stainkamp who you can follow on Twitter at @mikestainkamp34. Matz continues to improve while staying healthy A few weeks ago, Mets fans saw something that they’ve been waiting years to see: two top-prospect arms mowing down Braves hitters. Matt Harvey and Zack Wheeler pitched both ends of a doubleheader, Wheeler, of course, making his big league debut. To say...

Jeremy Hefner Among Group Of Mets Making 2014 Noises

The New York Mets had high expectations for Matt Harvey for this year. Jeremy Hefner was to fill out the rotation in Las Vegas, and be called up if something went wrong, like we knew it would, in Flushing. Hefner’s break came with the expected breakdown of Johan Santana. He made the Opening Day roster, was hammered early, but eventually has become one of the Mets’ most effective...
