A Detroit Tigers pitcher has begun the season 11-0 and it is not Justin Verlander. Max Scherzer improved to 11-0 after the Tigers defeated the Boston Red Sox 10-3 on Saturday night. Victory Martinez put the Tigers ahead early with a grand slam in the first inning while Scherzer survived a shaky first inning himself. “It’s nice to start a season 11-0. It just means we’re playing great team baseball and I’m going out there and doing my job,” Scherzer said. “I’m credited a ton of run support. That’s when you’ve got to give all the credit to your teammates. Every time I feel like I go deep into a game, they’re going to pick me up. They have the whole entire season.” Scherzer became the first pitcher to start 11-0 since Roger Clemens in 1997, according to STATS. Clemens is also the last pitcher to start 12-0, 13-0 and 14-0 which took place during his 1986 MVP season. The next scheduled start for Scherzer figures to fall on Friday at Tampa Bay.
