Detroit Tigers gunslinger Max Scherzer entered Comerica Park on Sunday afternoon with a perfect 6-0 record on the season, looking to extend that perfection against the Minnesota Twins.Scherzer would do exactly that, working six innings of one-run ball, surrendering three hits while striking out six batters and allowing three walks. Aside from an RBI single by Twins second baseman Jamey Carroll in the fifth inning,Scherzer dominated the Minnesota offense with effective use of his powerful four-seam fastball, which had good movement and painted the plate with solid control. The Detroit starter has had a phenomenal month of May, coming into Sunday’s game having posted a 3-0 record, a 3.19 ERA, 26/9 strikeout to walk ratio, and solid 0.68 WHIP in 31.0 innings in four starts.Scherzer would receive six runs in support of his valiant performance, led by a four-run sixth inning that was highlighted by a three-run triple by pinch-hitter Avisail Garcia.Detroit’s 6-1 victory over Minnesota would increase their lead to 1.5 games over the Cleveland Indians (who have lost three games in a row) in the AL Central division standings, boasting a 28-20 record.
