ATLANTA (AP) -- Atlanta Braves catcher Brian McCann says he has a cyst and a frayed labrum in his right shoulder. Even so, McCann is upset he's not starting for the second straight game. McCann said Saturday that a recent MRI showed a cyst is pressing on his shoulder joint, causing discomfort. He says he is able to "do all the things I need to do to play" but may have to address the problem after the season. David Ross is starting on Saturday night against the Dodgers for the second straight game. Manager Fredi Gonzalez says he plans for McCann to start on Sunday. McCann, a career .280 hitter and six-time All-Star, is hitting only .229 but he has 18 homers and 57 RBIs.

Chipper Jones Walking Away Still Makes Sense, Despite Fans Clamoring for One More Season

Chipper Jones still plans to retire despite his recent tear, and that's a decision that should sit well with baseball fans. Jones' farewell tour is better than any you'll see in the music industry. This season, he's not only been every bit of the future Hall of Famer he's been for 19 years, but he has the Braves primed to make a postseason push. Yet, despite the...

Chipper Jones’ Big Night

Atlanta Braves future Hall-of-Fame third baseman, Chipper Jones, should probably reconsider retiring at the end of the season; especially following his performance last night.   Jones homered twice, racking up three RBI, helping his club trounce the San Diego Padres 6-0 in Atlanta.  Jones’ play at the plate, all but over shadowed pitcher, Kris Medlen, who pitched a gem in a complete...

Francisco's single gives Braves win over LA

ATLANTA (AP) -- Pinch-hitter Juan Francisco's two-out single in the 11th inning gave the Atlanta Braves their fourth straight win, 4-3 over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night. Backup catcher David Ross and light-hitting Paul Janish kept the inning going with back-to-back singles off Brandon League (0-1) before Francisco punched one to left off Jamie Wright. Jonny Venters...

Chipper having a glorious farewell, but this is it

(Eds: APNewsNow. Will be updated. With AP Photos.) By PAUL NEWBERRY AP Sports Writer Chipper Jones still has those glorious moments that every ballplayer cherishes, from a Little Leaguer just starting out to a 40-year-old on the way out. When the Atlanta Braves third baseman had his first two-homer game in more than three years, he was so amped up that he spilled water all over...

What You Need to Know: Friday, August 17 by Daniel Rathman

The Thursday Takeaway When Tommy Hanson returns from the disabled list to pitch tonight’s series opener against the Dodgers, he will complete the Braves’ six-man rotation, an approach manager Fredi Gonzalez intends to employ for the rest of the month in an effort to foster both health and competition among his starters. Come September, one member of the sextet will be relegated...

Dugout Digest - ending the conversation

The Braves are transitioning to a six man starting rotation today, when they activate Tommy Hanson off of the DL. However, last night's performance from Kris Medlen has really made the conversation about how to knock out of the rotation on August 30th a little silly. Medlen threw a complete game shutout in Atlanta's 6-0 win over the Padres. Not bad for a guy who had...

Game Day Pictures: Braves vs Dodgers 8-18-12

Susan: Does Jonny have something gross in his pocket?Lauren: [doesn't look up] Yes.  The new job is a busy one, which is wonderful for my sanity but not so wonderful for attending Braves games (especially when you like to go early!). My poor Braves played five whole games of the homestand before I got to go to one, and I missed the Padres series altogether. SAD. With the help...

Fantasy Baseball Daily Fix, August 17, 2012: Medlen & Harvey dominate

Every year, some guys come out of nowhere in the second half of the fantasy baseball season and this year that has been Kris Medlen. The former top pitching prospect for Atlanta who has battled injuries in recent years tossed a five-hit shutout with six strikeouts. He showed he is fully healthy with 104 pitches and he should remain in the rotation with the Braves temporarily moving...

Braves-Nationals Preview

Tim Hudson hasn't lost since the Washington Nationals beat him to begin July. Another defeat against them to open a crucial three-game series Monday would make winning the NL East tougher for the Atlanta Braves. Hudson (12-4, 3.59 ERA) has been a key figure in helping the Braves (70-51) build a three-game lead for the top wild-card spot and remain within striking distance of...

08-17 Dale Murphy

Former Atlanta Braves Outfielder and First Baseman Dale Murphy joins Rob and Amy to discuss the impact of performance enhancing drugs on Major League Baseball

Obviously, we won the series with the Padres!

Hit #2700 on his bobblehead night Listening to "Gold on the Ceiling" on this lovely Friday, thought y'all might like to see some pictures from this week's Padres series. I'm so sad I don't have any pictures of my own to share - over the last few seasons I've tried to make it to at least one game per home series, and this is the first I've missed...
