PLAYERS: Mike MinorTim Hudson
TEAMS: Atlanta Braves
FOXSportsSouth.com invites you to meet the Braves as we continue a month-long look at our team, player-by-player. We'll revisit 2011 and project what 2012 might look like. Mike Minor Position: P Height: 6-4 Weight: 205 BatThrow: RL Hometown: Nashville, Tenn. Experience: Third season 2011 in review: Minor shuffled between Triple-A Gwinnett and the Braves, going 5-3 with a 4.14 ERA in the majors, including a three-game winning streak in August, when he sandwiched two victories over the Cubs around one against the Giants. He was 4-5 with a 3.13 ERA at Gwinnett. Career highlight: Minor gave up two earned runs in six innings to defeat the Nationals and earn his first big-league victory in his second career start on Aug. 17, 2010. Outlook: Minor is having the best spring of any of the Braves starters, so it seems he will be a lock to start the season in the rotation, at least until Tim Hudson returns at the first of May. Minor didnt give up a run in his first two spring starts and would be the only left-hander in the rotation. You should know: He set the Atlanta rookie record with 12 strikeouts against the Cubs on Aug. 22, 2010, breaking Tommy Hansons year-old mark of 11.

Andrelton Simmons making his case to be the Braves starting shortstop

Entering spring training, the presumptive replacement at short for Alex Gonzalez was 22 year old Tyler Pastornicky. Given how the spring has unfolded, that may not in fact be the case. Andrelton Simmons, a 22 year old from Curacao (home of former Brave Andruw Jones and current starting pitcher Jair Jurrjens) has turned heads with flashy defense and a strong arm, and hasn’t been...

Hot Stove Report: Dan Uggla

After years of having Dan Uggla hit homeruns against it’s starting pitching staff, the Atlanta Braves decided to add the muscle bound second baseman to their roster. In exchange for Uggla, the Braves sent utility infielder Omar Infante and relief pitcher Mike Dunn to the Marlins.  Although the Braves will miss Infante’s high batting average and flexibility as an infielder, the...

Note to Eric Karabell: Bourn Isn’t a One-Category Guy

I was reading through Eric Karabell’s “Do Not Draft” List on ESPN today (Insider only), and who do I see atop his list of guys to avoid this season? If you’ve read the title, you probably have a good idea: Michael Bourn. Listen Karabell, I understand your concerns regarding why a one-category, steals-only player should not be drafted where your colleagues at ESPN have Bourn...

Finding Keepers: Atlanta Braves

Most generic fantasy baseball leagues utilizing the ” keepers” feature are going to allow each team to keep “x” number of players from the previous year’s roster. I’ve seen most leagues keep five players per team and most of those leagues had 12 teams. So doing the math, we’re talking about 60 players for a league of that size. Following this logic deeper, players being...

The Wire: Jair Jurrjens

Author: Andrew SwansonA staple of value based investing is identifying a strong company with a proven track record whose stock is currently undervalued by the market. Purchasing a value stock while it is depressed in value affords the investor an excellent opportunity as the company will likely return to its true (book) value in the future. This same principle can be applied to...

Sleeper Alert: Craig Kimbrel

Author: Andrew SwansonIt is the goal of every professional athlete to leave their respective sport on their own terms, riding off into the sunset on the heels of a championship season filled with praise and accolades. This was not the case for Billy Wagner, as his 16 year MLB career ended in pain and frustration last October as his Atlanta Braves fell to the San Francisco Giants...

Homering for the second time in three games, Heyward hit a grand slam in the first inning off Wandy Rodriguez as Atlanta beat the Houston Astros 9-5 on Friday night. Heyward, runner-up for NL Rookie of the Year in 2010, struggled last season. Bothered by a sore...
